Gambling ads

7 posts in this topic

I was enjoying the Akaash Singh comedy special on YouTube until he interrupts his performance for a gambling ad 20 minutes in. This bothered me so much I couldn't continue watching.

I've seen several comedians promote sports betting companies in their podcasts. Have they no conscience? This seems like such a lowly grift.

Leo has given the example in his video "what is love" of the man who works for a company that manufactures landing gear for drones. That the man is not conscious enough to realize the evils that his work support. But with these gambling ads it's just blatantly obvious 😑

Some kid watches the show, their favorite comedian is literally saying "turn $1 into $10.000" (Akaash's words) and now he thinks that's a good way to spend time and earn money. But the comedian didn't make any money gambling, he made his career focusing on his talents and working hard.

What a terrible and dishonest role model. The worst part is that these comedians already make enough income for themselves and their families through YouTube monetization, merch, ticket sales and other sponsorship deals. But of course sports betting companies pay them more money.

I find it terribly confusing, how could they not be aware of this blatantly obvious evil? Do they have contempt and no empathy towards their own audience? It would be so easy to do the right thing here and just choose a different sponsor.

They have not.

Although if it's an automated ad he doesn't control that.

YTubers do not control the ads that YT runs.

Yeah obviously, but this is a literal skit in the middle of his special where he pretends to take a phone call from his mom to talk about their sponsor. My post refered to sponsorship reads.

That's like plugging PowerAid Mountain Blueberry in the middle of a prayer.

I watch many videos of comedians on their IG page, popular and unpopular; however, I couldn't find that person's comedy funny most of the time.

What's wrong with gambling? It ads value to entertainment and sports, it's literally added value to the marketplace. It leads to a small increase in debt for the states that have allowed it but if we're here to argue about the government's financial responsibility towards its people then I'll say sports gambling is not the place to start.

I've been getting into it and building a brand around it. It's a fascinating industry. Good to understand how liquidity in markets work.

@LordFall It has to do with the hollow pit in your stomach and trying to fill it with something. Ultimately harms majority for a few lucky people. People who gamble and get addicted are looking for something and placing the thing they are looking for in the narrow basket of winning big. As its a losers game the feeling dosent last and now they need to bet more and more to get more winnings so they get the feeling of that big win back. Then they don't get it and don't realize they are just making their emotions up based on stimuli and can make the feeling of winning big up whenever they want,so they kill themselves.

That happens more than people who win big and their lives are better. Their industries thrive off these people.

Some sponsor people they gamble on stream and the sponsor gives them higher odds of winning and people look at it and say that looked easy. The streamer absolutely over exaggerates as if its the coolest thing to possibly do and the children think its the funnest and coolest thing to do. Its fucked up. They throw away 100s of thousands that the sponsor gives to them and act like they are winning or losing something that matters to them.

Its basically a system that works only when people don't understand how their bodies work.
