(Chess) Can someone please explain why stockfish is saying this

5 posts in this topic

It says I could tac win rook...I don't see how...

QueenF3, rookF1, rookF2, rook takes rookF2?

...

I deffo think bishopB2 is way more skilly (taking pawn on B2) offering queen trade since I'm up major material...he took it then blundered rookD8 and resigned, like a wimp.

Can anyone see how queenF3 is free rook?

Qf3 is definitely the strongest, no need to rely on blunders or offer queen trades, just game over. Their only moves are either Rd8 check, taken with knight, then their next move is irrelevant, either some pawn or Qf1, you do Bd4 putting massive pressure on the f2 pawn. Again their response is futile, either take the rook and lose the queen, or some pawn move, after which Bxf2 check, queen has to take, you grab, then mate in 1.

If their first response is Rf1, basically same scenario, even quicker. White queen can do nothing to help.

The continuation you thought of with just queen and rook moves isn't going anywhere indeed, the bishop is key, which's why you don't want to move it before the right moment.

I don't know if there's such a feature on chess.com, but on lichess you can paste the board position in FEN notation copied from elsewhere and continue from that position against various levels of a computer, trying out various combinations live will train you well.

Yah I have lichess I'll check out that feature.

But bro...Qf3, Rf1, Bd4, whiteQe1.

Then if I move Bf2: R takes Bf2, R takes Rf2, whiteQ takes Rf2 and is defended by the king...Its just a massive trade and I lose a bishop..? Or I suppose if I don't initiate the trade I could just promote the a-pawn forcing white queen away, is that the idea? Or jump Knight to e5 then d3  would also do the trick.

Maybe I overthinking it.

That's another possible sequence. Though Stockfish's best move is always Rd8 check, that gives some more wiggle room, but defeat is inevitable anyway.

Qe1 is terrible, after that you do Rxe1, not Bxf2, then whatever move they play it's always mate in 2, 3 tops.
