What do you think about a MUSIC DETOX?

4 posts in this topic

Currently I'm on day 10 I would say (knowing that I sometimes listen to it, about ten minutes when I do high intensity cardio, and only in 432Hz)

I have the impression that music, by bringing us a reward without there being any effort beforehand can be very harmful to the brain.

And also:

- Universal 440 Hz frequency (adopted in 1939 by Goebbels) which is not natural for the brain

- The fact that there are lyrics will overstimulate the brain (the tunes responsible for language and memory)

- Part of my personal dopamine detox project

What do you think?

Depends on what it does to your mind when you listen to it. I used to in my past maladaptive daydream to music so wanted to abstain from it to quit daydreaming and save myself time. But if you don’t do that and instead music does something like bringing you peace or help you focus then it’s positive. I do believe in the power of a dopamine detox though so if music gives you a high and you abstain I think there’s benefits. It’s like the brain is being forced to adapt to less stimuli, so eventually you’ll need less to get that dopamine, or the brain will be forced to find other ways to give that dopamine, like maybe you start singing yourself to replace the music.

I've been using it as a way to wean off screens, as my brain wasn't ready for total silence. Music that you are programmed to enjoy can help cultivate the parasympathetic nervous system and ease stress.  The problem with personal growth is that we often "try too hard" to change which stresses out the nervous system.  It's hard to explain but personal growth really requires relaxation also.

Some books that explain it better are Psycho-Cybernetics (which I'm convinced many modern self help authors took from), The Open Focus Brain, Breaking the Habit of being yourself, and Your Survival Instinct is Killing You.

If you really want to expand the meaning, even your feet hitting the floor as you walk is considered music. We just don’t normally associate those sounds with music.

And your heart beating; every breath you take…

So good luck escaping music, it’s forever with you.
