People who think meditation is weird

I used to host group meditations at a school I went to once. A regular one day came with her friend who said she just wanted to observe. After the meditation her friend was grilling me on what meditation is exactly with a tone of suspicion. They where both Christian and she was worried that her friend was doing something satanistic or pagan or whatnot.

I had a christian gf accuse me of black magic because of meditation.. how far off she was

I would do the same, only telling people who seem interested, or if they ask. I don’t think speaking about it necessarily sounds like you wanna be more interesting, if someone takes it like that it suggests to me they are insecure

You need to understand that no ego wants to meditate. Meditation will be its death. In addition. meditation is hard work and ego will cleverely find a million screens to occupy itself mindlessly. The mindfulness of meditation is poison. It is however the only self love. It is getting to know the real you. not the one who performs for reward and acclaim. Not to meditate is the definition of a wasted life. Meditation is the gateway to reality.

Knowing all the above, you have to be gentle and delicate with non-meditators. Emphasize that meditation is the true self love and self knowledge. It will make you a better a more interesting and a more accomplished person for reasons that no book or podcast could impart. Meditation requires a life-long commitment and dedication. It is a complete change in the direction of one's life. It is for the first time taking control of one's own destiny. All answers are within, is the highest truth. Mastery of the world depends entirely on mastery of oneself which comes about by finding the treasures within.

I made couple of jokes like that and she wasn't fond of it. So I respected her religion as much as possible.

Meditation is not death, but life. It is awakening instead of being a zombie. Those people just haven't suffered enough. I respect everybody's process but they don't respect mine which is fine.

I live in a western country and sometimes when I tell people that I meditate I get the weirdest looks and when I tell them what it is about they even look weirder while these judgmental people might profit from meditation the most. On one side I just want to hide my dirty little secret and on the other hand I just don’t give a fuck and just tell what I do in my private time. Much better than what the usual people do like watching tv and watching porn. 

Tell them to stay alone a week in the house and do not go anywhere.

To be honest, is super weird

Maybe it’s to do with the sub culture of people you are interacting with.

I imagine people in western corporate culture would probably be impressed by you doing it and think it was a normal way to go about improving productivity.
