Some bonus information. Lukashenko won the election, representing the Belaya Rus Party, with 87.71% of the vote. Thus, defeating Sergei Syrankov, representing the Communist Party, with 2.72% of the vote.

But i do believe that Belarusians probably voted for him. Because they don’t want to be attacked by Russia in a war like Ukraine. It’s not worth it the way it looks right now.

Democracy in Ukraine has been a massive failure. The fact that Russians has put up an orders of magnitude stronger economy points to the fact that Authoritarianism works well at that developmental level.

Plus western economics interests would rather balkanize he entire former Soviet territories and sell them off to western corporations who would milk them to death. Putin said No.

It’s difficult for a country to be 100% neutral. There’s naturally going to be bias and a tilting to one side or another ie Russian interest or Western. 

The difference here is that a neighbouring country tilting Westward flirts with and often does become part of NATO - which brings Western advanced weaponery onto Russias doorstep threatening its core - including a imperial mentality that isn’t so advanced and is war mongering.

The same level of security threat doesn’t occur in reverse - as Russia doesn’t have a equivalent alliance system that binds nations into a article 5 type commitment. Asymmetrical threat - one is clearly more escalatory than the other.

Westerners fetishize freedom and sovereignty in an absolutist way, as if it simply exists in a vaccum. “Do as thou wilt” same way we induldge hedonistically at home, we provoke geopolitically abroad.

It’s not that other cultures or nations don’t value freedom, they value it differently - perhaps even approach it more multi dimensionally instead of like a rebellious teenager. Freedom of harmony has benefits that freedom of autonomy will never taste.

PS I love the West and am not hating.

How do you explain the Baltics, Romania and Poland then? All previously under the shadow of Moscow, all stage blue orthodox / catholic, all previously ran by despots, and experienced a fraction of the interference while building their modern democratic states. You’re just playing into your own confirmation bias. After their revolution (Ukraine) it wasn’t exactly smooth sailing for them. Russia has been fucking with them at every step, creating division that the USA has barely got a taste of. Russia’s economy is not evidence that democracy is a failure in Ukraine. They have tremendous resources and are geographically much more self reliant no matter what due to the cards they were given. Who’s to say they wouldn’t be more successful if they adopted democratic principles in the 90s and cracked down on corruption an oligarchs who formed their country in the 90s? Your last point makes little sense, as opposed to “the Ukraine” being sold off to Russian corporations? What western corporations have damaged Romania, Poland, and the Baltics? They enjoy a higher standard of living on average than most Russians. Russian soldiers even reported being shocked going into Ukraine and seeing how Ukraine roads were paved and how much nicer their home appliances were. What’s this big bad boogeyman west with better economics than Russia going to do to ruin Ukraine other than it not being a puppet state for rebuilding the fantasy of the Russian empire?

Good, the last thing they need is to elect a Western puppet like Ukraine did to let NATO in to try to debilitate Russia with a conflict fueled by their meat, I mean men. There's no real good reason for them to be on bad terms with Russia, which is more powerful big neighbor, but it's not only about that. Ukraine wouldn't even have lost Crimea, but it's not their fault, there was a cue, and a total Western destabilization movement that worked. Electing stupid clowns is costly, look at Milei and wait for the second term of Trump, but it's usually an economic price. Ukraine paid a too-high price for electing this cocaine addict shithead, hundreds of thousands of dead men, and 20% of the territory gone.

Please go check the stats. Russia being a much bigger country has more or less the same standard of living as Romanians as per United Nations. 

Romanians do not enjoy a standard of living significantly more than the Russians.

Poland is indeed better, but that means you are reaching the far limits of neoliberalism, the further east you go. Why is that Poland not as developed as the Germany or uk? 

Neoliberalism would not have worked in Russia for the same reason it would not have worked in Ukraine. The further easy you go the more it weakens.
