I might stop my sonnet subscription.

This is insanely good and insanely cheap.

Open Source ftw.

Be careful feeding or uploading any of your data to China.

You are God. You are Truth. You are Love. You are Infinity.

I don't like making this another west vs China thing. You can always run it locally if you are paranoid of your data.

This is about open source vs closed source.

The power of AI is in the hands of normal folks vs in the hands of a select few who would milk everyone for profit. The latter was the worst case which we avoided successfully.

I was expecting something like this towards the later end of this decade. But we got it too soon.

Heck they have even made the entire research paper available on how they developed this. Insane.

And check the API pricing. It's around $0.28/ million tokens.

About 1/100 the price for GPT-4.

Absolutely mind boggling.

@zazen I noticed China are also very advanced in terms of spirituality, understanding energy and tao dynamics. When you talk about energy to an European they look at you with these dazed eyes while Chinese are very natural in energy comprehension. Even on this forum it is very disappointing.

I wouldn't be surprised if OpenAI and all these USA AI companies have been scamming investors and over pitching how much cash is needed to train these models. The top is filled with so much corruption and dishonesty. Not surprised if these greedy venture capitalists have been getting ripped off, while China shows the same can be done for a fraction. Where did all those billions and billions go???

What will they do with it to make my life difficult?

Maybe over long term USA will be weaker geopolitically?

Switching to deepseek entirely for all technical, coding and development.

Use the claude for occasional history or a more human analysis.

There's a convergence of advancements happening that will completely change how we live. Generalizing here, but if we think of us humans as three components: body, mind, spirit. Map that onto the advancements currently under way in : automation (body), AI (intelligence/mind), energy (spirit).

Automation scales human labor, AI scales human intelligence - and abundant clean energy is the input that animates the whole thing the same way spirit animates life. Human labor is expensive, our intelligence can be limited, and the energy needed to fuel civilization is either dirty, non-reliable or non transferable. This is the technological trinity - Jezus be damned. We could be entering a post-capitalist, post-scarcity world. What does money even mean?

China's advancing in the energy department: https://www.livescience.com/planet-earth/nuclear-energy/chinas-artificial-sun-shatters-nuclear-fusion-record-by-generating-steady-loop-of-plasma-for-1-000-seconds

https://www.techno-science.net/en/news/kilometer-long-solar-power-plant-in-space-this-chinese-project-is-monumental-N26400.html - ''A solar power plant, floating 22,370 miles (36,000 km) above Earth, might seem like science fiction. Yet, China is actively working to bring this project to life, which could transform our energy supply.

This project, comparable in scale to the Three Gorges Dam, aims to harness solar energy in space, where sunlight is ten times more intense than on Earth. The goal is to produce, in one year, an amount of energy equivalent to the world's oil reserves. Indeed, the announced production would be 100 billion kilowatt-hours annually.''

y'all dont understand what kind of country china is, china is a country where logic is beneath "social stability" right now, not even gonna mention human rights or freedom of speech. recently, Xi visited to a mall in china to do propaganda, 3 days later that same place exploded. after which, when you search up the name of that place in state controlled social media (which is all the Chinese have of the internet unless they jump over the fire wall) , you only get results of xi's visit of that place. Now I think they changed it, when you search the place up now, you dont get anything with xi in it, probably because they dont want people to have both the place and xi in their minds at the same time. This is their reality, things like this happens all the time there, but the people who live near the those places where things happen will never know about those things if they didn't witness it. In Mao's china, it was a dictatorship, and with the cultural revolution he created, political dissidents were to be executed, tortured, humiliated, and even cases of cannibalism, sons and daughters would beat up their parents and teachers, Mao was worshipped as a godlike figure (still happens today, my dad is a living proof), it was a cult. Deng xiaoping changed that and changed the system and helped the economy, if it wasn't for him, china would remain like North Korea. Now Xi is going back to Mao's style of leadership. Political dissidents are not tolerated at all, china is a country where more than 400 different versions of nicknames for xi are censored, china is a country where saying "loving the country and loving the government are 2 different concept" is risky, china is a country where foreigners have the ability to know more about china than Chinese people, china is a country where they're teaching toxic Chinese nationalism right now.

I just used Deepseek for some coding questions and it works really great. My initial observation is that it even works better than ChatGPT. A lot less gimmicky and natural.

Ok I’m convinced now American developers oversold their need for all these chips in order to raise more funding. I’d be very curious why it cost them so much to do something China can do for a fraction of the cost. I smell scams but I also think this general bull run mentality that plagues American tech inevitably leads to situations like this. They are all so caught up in the bottom line and funding rounds that it creates these investor bubbles.

Same thing here, this big protest that happened on 1/6 with police brutality and general violence is not something Chinese people know about. We as people who live on the opposite side of the planet have access to the info
