Trump pardons Ross Ulbricht

23 posts in this topic

Trump is to pardon Silk Road dark web market creator Ross Ulbricht. I wonder if Variety Jones will get the same treatment.

If you are unsure of the whole story of the Silk Road dark marketplace story, there are many videos on YouTube and plenty of books about it.

Nice 👍

That‘s a good thing imo.

It‘s wild how US presidents can just pardon anyone they want though basically. With Biden pardoning his son and Fauci in advance. Trump pardoning the January 6 guys.

I wonder how MAGA would react if trump just lost his gourd and pardoned a bunch of school shooters and serial killers. "Very fine murders, the very best, Il ove them, we're doing the purge."

There's loads of proof on this. They have all the Slik road admin DMs. I think he called hits on like 5-6 people. The FEDs were in on one of them and staged the hit to make it looked like it happened. The story is crazy. Watch some docus on it or read American Kingpin.

It wouldn't surprise me if he pardons SBF next.

Why would Trump ever do such a random out of nowhere pardon? He always has to play the role of an American cultural connoisseur even when It's so out of place for him.

Only he would ever do this, makes you wonder just what the fuck is he thinking about, is this one of the magical deeds he's meant to be carrying out when the MAGA sees him as a savior?

There's loads of evidence on this, the judge said it was a factor in his sentencing. From Wikipedia-

"Federal prosecutors alleged that Ulbricht had paid $730,000 in murder-for-hire deals targeting at least five people, because they purportedly threatened to reveal the Silk Road enterprise. Prosecutors believe no contracted killing actually occurred. Ulbricht was not charged in his trial in New York federal court with murder for hire, but evidence was introduced at trial supporting the allegations. The district court found by a preponderance of the evidence that Ulbricht probably commissioned the murders. The possibility that Ulbricht had commissioned murders was considered by the judge in sentencing Ulbricht to life and was a factor in the Second Circuit's decision to uphold the sentence. Ulbricht was separately indicted in federal court in Maryland on a single murder-for-hire charge, alleging that he contracted to kill one of his employees (a former Silk Road moderator). Prosecutors moved to drop this indictment after his New York conviction and sentence became final."

The story is actually really wild.

I don’t know much about it honestly. I know a little bit about the guy and case from a buddy who used to love silk road.

They sentenced him to double life + 40 years without parole. Which is think is absolutely nuts. The maximum jail time here they can sentence is around 18 years even for murder. Ulbricht did 10 years of his time.

I mean it's not just attempted murder, it's industrial level drug trafficking as well as facilitating countless crimes. The issue is more of setting up a detterent for others to setup a similar business, 10 years would probably be worth it for a lot of people if you're gonna make millions.

Keep in mind there are lots of people doing time for much less severe crimes, there are many that are even legitimately innocent, but because of bureaucracy they're still in jail. I don't really get tje defence of this particular guy who knowingly committed these crimes and was found guilty. The only reason people are defending him now is because Trump pardoned him, can you imagine the uproar if Boden pardoned him?

Yea but personally i think the US system of punishment with with those crazy year numbers and the prison system and capital punishment is total bs.

It's wild, isn't it. It's funny how he goes from a lofty stage green libertarian growing and selling shrooms on there to get it all started. To become a stage red cartel boss ordering whacks on people 😂

@PurpleTree If you are interested there are some documentaries on YouTube about it. A 'Storyville' one and I've seen the 'Barely Sociable' one.

I also don't think Trump released him out of the goodness of his heart. There is more to it. It seems like a 'favour' for someone.
