How far will Trump go?

61 posts in this topic

Trump only has two years to implement his agenda before the congressional elections.  I don’t see how he could implement something as time consuming as the acquisition of Canada.  A president has to be focused on a few key areas to be successful.   But, as for the acquisition itself, keep in mind that the acquisition of Alaska was called “Seward’s Folly”.    Some of the congressional opposition said:  "Seven million dollars for a refrigerator”, “What will we do with polar bears and icebergs?”, “rivers of ice, and death-like solitude”.

If democrats were smart they’d help Trump annex Canada.

Canadians are much more liberal than Americans. The democrats would completely dominate government if Canadians voted.

here, yous do realise that this whole donald trump thing is happening because people are tired of political correctness? (im well aware that i am not learned enough within this remit to talk authoritatively about politics, especially USA politics)...but yo, i mean, im not a fan of political correctness myself. would it not be fair to say that a shake up of the system might even bring about the climate for a reconsideration of policies and governing methodologies after the donald is gone? like the ones leo suggested in his conscious politics series? like i dont think there can be massive reform and systemic adjustment (of the prison system in USA for example) without something to shock the system into change. also seeing as reality is a self adjusting system that moves itself inevitably towards perfection, there is no way the universe isint trying to tell us something here

The American election isn't THAT important. Everyone knows that they would still be poor and miserable whether it was Kamala or Trump

Mexico’s president hits back at Trump - why don’t we call this Mexican America. What time line are we on here 😂

I never knew but Mexico ceded 55% of its historic territory to the US - 15% of US territory today used to be Mexicos.

Everyone gonna be talking about historical claims now lol

This is a good point.  If Canada was added as one state it would get 53 electorial votes.  If each of the 10 provinces was added as a separate state, they would get 73 electorial votes.  I had Chatgpt do the math.  That doesn’t include the three territories.  If the 10 provinces each became  a state, former Canada would have 20 senators.  The democratic party should jump on this.

Nah

Canada would be added in the way Puerto Rico is. Second class (semi) citizens. No voting.

Or maybe two Canadian votes would make for one American vote.

Why? Canada has a GDP 20x larger than Puerto Rico. And by giving up it's territorial sovereignty to the states they would get a complete coast to coast border that arguably is worth many trillions if it ever care to any conflict with China/Russia. Canada has massively more leverage to offer in a deal like this than Puerto Rico.

America seems like such a mess to me. I have a family memeber who studied IT there and coudn't get a job after graduation. They even moved back to europe because of that. Seems unthinkable to me, america was always the land of opportunity where people went to get rich. It's crazy that a person with a degree from such a perspective sector would move from there to an ex-socialist state.

If Trump was smart I'd asume that he's already starting to distract people from the fact that the economy will get worse. Politically it's pretty smart to blame foreing countries for your economic problems and impoverished people are easy to rile up with nationalism. The poorer the place is the more nationalistic they are. However considering it's Trump he's probably going the Biden way and is slowly losing his grip on reality.

To you all that think that things are business as usual, and things can change in the midterms, or maybe Trump won't get anything done in his term and we can vote him out in 2028, part of Trump and MAGA's plan is there will be no more voting. Once he has loyalists in every position throughout the government, and has the full Supreme Court in his pocket, control over the military, and has complete immunity to literally anything he does, elections are a thing of the past. Trump himself promised this. Listen to what he says. We are in this for the long haul. If voting is gone, what can stop them?

What really worries me, Men like Trump, Musk, Putin, the entire MAGA/Republican party, they are all true Psychopaths /Sociopaths. They have no remorse, no empathy for people, they only have this insatiable, never-ending need for power. They are like a cancer, they will keep consuming everything, unless stopped. Hitler was like this, he wanted to consume the world, until he and his followers were stopped. We've had Men like this throughout history. Now, you have Men like this that have complete control over the largest and most advanced military the world has ever known. And the first thing Trump wants to do once in control, is take over other countries. Once again, Men like this will keep consuming everything, because more is never enough. How can they be stopped? That's the question. Third world war? Maybe. Wouldn't it be wild, that Hitler tried to take over the world 80 years ago, and it was the U.S. that was the heros that helped stop them. Only for 80 years later there is a chance we could be in a similar situation with us in the same path as the Nazis. Not saying this is all going to happen, but based on Trump's greed, alignment with dictators, and recent wanting to take over multiple countries, it sure seems like this is a possibility.

Don't exaggerate and inflame things.

Most republicans are just everyday, blue-collar people.

Was talking about the Republican party politicians, that were taken over by MAGA, not your average everyday American who aligns with traditional Republican values.

It's still an exaggeration.

Yes, I'm sure some politicians fit the criteria. But true psychopathy / sociopathy is still rare. Most people are not that, and those that are often end up incarcerated.

Are you kidding? Trump has done thousands of crimes and convicted of hundreds of crimes and will never be held responsible for any of them. Matt Gatz did drugs and fucked an underage girl, and trafficked her across state lines, and he'll never be held responsible. Those that make the rules make the rules to not apply to them. None of them are ever going to be incarcerated for anything they do, as long as they are in charge of the justice system.

But why are you now singling out Trump and Gaetz? You are picking the worst of the worst.

Your original critique was of the entire party.

Examples that represent the whole. Pick any of them and they will not receive any punishment for any crime they commit, because MAGA knows that if one goes down, any of them can go down, so none of them can go down.

It's not because they are corrupt people that they can't help move the general state of things forward. The Trump and Elon Musk timeline will take us to an AI utopia imo just hard to see from here.

Nonsense.

There are hundreds of republican politicians, thousands if you count the local level. They are not all psychopaths or equivalent to Trump / Gaetz. This is an absurd claim.

And if they are as sociopathic as you say they are, then you should also realize they will throw each under the bus when it's convenient. They will even set each other up. So your image of MAGA unity is mostly a fantasy.

Look at how much they already fight with each other.
