I played like 30 Fischer games in the last month. Otherwise I haven't played chess in 20 years.

Here's my question to you guys:

If someone is rated say 1700, what percent of the time can they beat a 1700 rated bot? Is it more like 90% of the time or more like 50%?

I assume that if equal rated players play each other then they should be winning 50% of the time, yay or nay?

The 1700 rating of the bot is relative. It's rating depends on the pool of people it's competing against. If a million people is in the pool and it scores a 1700 rating on average, then it's strength is 1700 rating in that pool of people.

3min chess, 5min chess, 15 min chess... 1 hour chess.. They all have different ratings on the chess website. I'm not sure if you noticed because maybe you never played against people yet? Magnus Carlsen on chess.com has five different ratings depending on what time control it is. 

If you can beat that bot 50% of the time then you are 1700 strength, in whatever pool that bought is competing in.

But you're likely playing a bot that is not competing with other humans so it's just a predefined rating created by the programmers.

By seeing the skill level of that bot I would place it at around 1300-1500 fide. I know that's not what you wanted to hear

But I spent more time thinking about chess and I did jerking off, so I probably can't give that bot an orgasm like you can.

I expect that real elo rating is harder to maintain than beating a bot.

I am slowly working my way up to 2000-rated bots.

3 weeks ago I was struggling against 1500 rated bots. Now 1700 is pretty comfortable. Once I can beat 2000-rated bots then I will be ready to play some humans.

That's fantastic progress, by that rate in 8 months you'll be 3300 rating.

I never seen anyone practice by playing Bots, Only you can find comfort playing with a machine.

I enjoyed chess as a kid. I had some natural talent and played in tournaments. But I never did any sort of formal study, which makes me wonder how good I would have been if I had.

You guys are inspiring me, maybe I'll pick it back up.

It probably depends on whether you take the game as seriously as you would if you were playing with a human.
I make more stupid mistakes playing against a bot than against humans because I care less about winning.

Another thing is that bots make their moves immediately after you made yours which plays more of a role though if you play on limited time.

You can practice with a bot but in my experience playing against humans is better for improving.

@Unlimited @Leo Gura So the bot ratings dont improve in a linear way, they are overly good at calculation, if you played a human of equal strength they will make tactical mistake, but the bot will not.

The bots unnaturally get good at tactics and normal humans dont.

Also when a bot makes a mistake its unnatural, they make mistakes a human player would never make. it feels like the bots are artificially debuffed.
