Leo, how on earth are you so good at Chess?

Well, actually, that part I think is stupid. That's a terribly egoic way to play a game.

That's what games are for.. for there to be a winner someone else must LOSE! That's the beauty of life, to defeat another ego fair and square in a battle. At the end of the day we are animals, so games help us feed the animal urges we have in our psyche.

There is power in formal and informal ways of learning. It is constantly finding the sweet spot between formal and informal learning. Too much formal learning and you become rigid. And too much informal leaves a lot of holes in your defence and attack.

Every two days I try to put some time in chess. And it looks like this: 3 chess puzzles, 1 online lesson, 1 competitive game.

Some people don’t engage in formal learning and they get ripped apart. It is like putting a prof boxer against an amateur boxer.

I thought you were all about interconnecting parts in your consciousness work, I don't understand why someone like you is not interested in bullet chess, because it's all about trying to coordinate your chess pieces as fast as you can and executing your winning plans, I don't even think at that level of play the use memorized theoretically moves is needed or applied because it's hard to anticipate all the moves your opponent can come up with especially in sidelines. Anyway that's that, for me it helps scratch that part of my brain that always try to understand or rationalize things 🍻

No way. I hate rapid thinking. I like slow and methodical. Intelligence requires time to unfold, not artificial human limits.

What if black always starts with 1 random pawn advanced forward by 1 square? This would have the added advantage of making opening theory less robotic

That could work, but all of those pawn moves have theory behind them.

It would the equivalent if white started with one random pawn move one square forward. < realize what you’re doing. You’re giving black the first move and then you’re making black make one random pawn move. So there’s no need to just give black the first move just enforced white to make one random pawn move forward by one square.

Next All of those pawn moves have names and are part of opening repertoire, but they’re less common cause it’s not the best move for white. Because white loses the initiative and equalize the position right away with black.

So that could work because the position is forced to be equalized.

Another thing is pawn f3 or pawn f6 as a first move is really bad. If black or white is enforced to play Pawn F3. As a first move, they just have a disadvantage all game. Because it weekends the king and blocks of the Knights development and you could take advantage of it right away in the opening.

f3, e5, g4, Qh4+ check mate 😂 this is just a demo of a common trap beginners fall for, but it just demonstrates the basic idea.

Carlson and Hikaru sometimes play F3 for fun and purposely play at a disadvantage all game.

F3 is a long-term weakness that will haunt white all game and they need to play around it and black immediately gets an advantage.

OH SHIT! Carlson has been playing a variation of what you suggested! Roll the dice!

Is that where you got the idea? Lmao

but hikaru responded with F6 trolling and having fun instead of just crushing it.

@integral You talking to me?

I have no idea about that game.

But it's kinda cringe that two of the best players in the world are all confused just because there's one weird opening. Shows how rotten classical chess is.

@Leo Gura Well, like they say, "different strokes for different folks," but for me, it's more like intuitive thinking with a predictive quality added to it that even works on a millisec glimpse of chess position, and always leading to what I would have played even if I took a min or 2 to analyze the position. And believe me, I don't think it comes from pattern recognition I see it happen even in Fischer Random blitz games. I think it's because of my hyperactive imagination since I can also simulate dialogues with different people, some of whom I haven't even met I think that's y and this coming from a sobriety state of being. I guess that also qualifies as a higher form of intelligence, but that intelligence is parallel to my level understanding of chess. And believe me, it's something I couldn't even dream of few years back it's new and it's like some new program has been added to my thinking mind, well christian mystics knows what they did. 😂

Chess is still a good game for most people.  Most people will never play it at the level Fischer is talking about.  I've been playing chess my whole life, and I've only memorized a couple of very basic openings and some general theory.   I think it has a lot of value in teaching young players basic logic and reasoning.  At the highest level though, yeah it's a solved game.

@Dodo I think putting the knight on g6 as a starting position might give black a disadvantage because the knight is further away from the controlling the centre. It still feels equal only because black is gonna have an extra piece developed.

The knight being on G6 means it’s gonna have a harder time controlling the centre squares so white will have an easier time taking control of the centre with its pawns, but black has an extra piece developed, so it might balance out.

A chess engine is not gonna be good at evaluating the equality of a starting position. It’s not designed for that.

A real test would be to have the computer play against itself for millions of games and as it figures out the optimized best possible way to play the game from that starting position.

It might discover a completely broken way for white to play the opening because it figures out how to take advantage of blacks piece being off centre.

I completely disagree. From g6 the knight is immediately controlling the center without moving! Its precisely what helps black in the fight for the center.

It's the engine that says its completely even, not that it looks even. Full 0.00s with the 3 top moves and responses.

If you set up normally the evaluation is +0.2 for white where 1 is a pawn.

The engine is the most equipped to evaluate the starting position.

I know for fact that knight on g6 helps the center, because its attacking it, but also because one of the 3 top moves is h4 by white, completely abandoning the center mission, because now white doesnt have that extra center advantage and the engine goes to challange and dislodge the g6 knight which yes, is a bit awkwardly placed, but slightly better than before.

After all we don't want black to have the advantage, but all even.

What if black gets all the same starting positions as white, but black gets to slap white as hard as he wants across the face before white moves?

I think that evens out the whole game.

@Dodo if the best move for white is pawn to H4 on the first move … that’s already a red flag.

What if both black and white start with a deliberate move at once? Or even couple of moves ? Will it not minimize white's advantage?
