Why do windows computers get slow after a while?

So you have both a PC and a laptop with Windows 11? This means they are literally brand new with warranty? Have you tried contacting the support or asking other owners of the same model? There must be other people with the same problem.

They are not brand new. I don't get how you came to that conclusion to be honest. 

Unfortunately no warranty left.

But even if there was warranty, it doesn't apply to problems like this. It is a software problem, so changing hardware wouldn't suffice.

I misphrased it. I was talking about a fresh, formatted install, not simply rolling back.

MS is dropping support for W10 in October 2025. I hope they iron out the issues with W11 before then.

It such a bother to having switch.

Your issue with Windows is currently also an annoyance. Linux can also be a good experience: free, efficient, customizable, spyware-free, stable (depending on distro). Mint is stable and great for beginners. Give live-booting a try.

As for office suites, you can use LibreOffice, OnlyOffice, and online alternatives.

Linux gospel aside, use WinUtil, do a clean install, and do some research on optimizing Windows.

You don't need support. It will work just fine.

Dude, I still got PCs running Win8 that I have used for 10 years without a single virus.

The first thing I do after installing any Windows is disabling automatic updates (search for StopUpdates10 app), telemetry, and system restore. And I regularly clear cache and remove temp files using CCleaner.

Doing all that, my PC performance doesn't change at all after any period of time.

Of course, I also remove all Microsoft bloatware.

Security updates are good. But I have noticed that they slow the system down if downloaded and installed through Windows Update or by installing a package. But if they're pre-installed into the Windows installation, they don't have such a bad side effect.

I honestly don't understand the difference or why this happens, just something I've noticed.

I never download them. I switch off the automatic download.

It depends on how you build the computer. I researched the best parts and built mine 5 years ago, its only started to lag now, a simple re-install does the fix, but windows sucks anyway, use Linux or buy one of the new macbook pros (m-series), lag will be history, especially if you know how to use it.

I think Windows 10 is at its best right now. The only case I had problems with it was because of my own stupidity. I had turned off updates for a very long time and it got slow. Made a clean install, performed about 100 updates and zero issues so far on an 8 year old desktop PC. I will keep Win 10 until something better comes out.
