ACIM contemplations

One of the main sources of upsets in the human experience is not getting what we desire. Jesus says everything here has disappointed you since time began. This world is the opposite of Heaven. If you are perfectly taken care of forever in Heaven, then there's a lack everywhere on earth, and you will never get what you desire.

That has to be accepted. Losing all hope was freedom - Fight Club.

He does say that if you choose to awaken as your sole purpose, your needs will be taken care of without your effort. The keyword is needs; he says nothing about desires. So you will have a roof over your head and food. He doesn't promise anything else. We accept that this world is a place where starved and thirsty creatures come to die. We are grateful that our needs are cared for with little effort and focus on forgiveness to awaken from the dream.

Exactly as Keith says: you try, you manifest, you work hard at your career, you try to find a relationship, all just to fail miserably.
 

 “But the world has none to offer. All its roads but lead to disappointment, nothingness and death. There is no choice in its alternatives. Seek not escape from problems here. The world was made that problems could not be escaped.” 
 

The only way out is through Silence, which leads out of this world back Home. There will never be happiness on earth. We are not creatures of time. Time is stressfull for an eternal being. We accept the misery of the dream and choose to transcend it through forgiveness. 
 

There’s so much pain all throughout our lives that our tolerance for pain is high, but not without limit. We have to see clearly and feel deeply the pain this world causes us and use that as a motivation to leave it.

So we first understand the ego and the world that it has made, but only until we see the cost of choosing it and then saying I no longer want this. There’s a danger of getting enamered by the ego and digging deeper and deeper into it, which is not the goal. The goal is to choose peace instead of ego. Psychoanalysis tends to do this - it looks at the shadows, thus making them even more real. Now, when you are in the trap of the ego - miserable and in despair, how do you swim to the surface and begin to reach the end of the lake? If I look at the ego’s thoughts they remain, they do not dissapear.

Okay, so full forgiveness is saying this is not okay to your egoic thoughts - either about others, yourself or your life situation. We always have the power to choose Peace instead of this. We have to control our negative, not observe them. Apostles in DU says that looking at your judgements is not the same as forgiving them. When Gary was asked why, after completing the forgiveness technique we still hear bad thoughts, he says that we didn’t do it right. If we do it right, then we remain in Peace. So we always remind ourselves that unkind thoughts are never okay, and we can always let them go and choose Peace now. We shouldn’t delay atonement, it’s always now. The mistake I made was observing my fear - it didn’t help. I have to stop it in it’s tracks and choose Peace instead of it.  
 

Now that feels healing and powerful. Knowing that I can always choose Peace and stay there is very healing and empowering. I should never tolerate mind wandering.

Even sharing your problems is a wrong-minded decision. Jesus says that we are always free to choose Peace instead of fear. We might think that we have problems in the world, but that is not so, the problem is always our choice for the ego instead of Peace. Observing ego is still being with ego. True forgiveness is being with Peace alone. Thoughts can come up but they dissapear immediatelt when they don’t get fed our attention, which is what gives them strength.

Hakim said when people ask me: what do you think? He says he never wants to be in a position to answer. He never wants to rely on his own thinking. He knows all thinking is bullshit. He wants to get to The Answer. He wants to point people to the answer in their own minds. All other answers are nonsense. 

"Being afraid seems to be involuntary; something beyond your own control. (ACIM, T-2.VI.1:1)"

 

When you are fearful, you have chosen wrongly. ³That is why you feel responsible for it. ⁴You must change your mind, not your behavior, and this is a matter of willingness. ⁵You do not need guidance except at the mind level. ⁶Correction belongs only at the level where change is possible. ⁷Change does not mean anything at the symptom level, where it cannot work.

4. The correction of fear is your responsibility. ²When you ask for release from fear, you are implying that it is not. ³You should ask, instead, for help in the conditions that have brought the fear about. ⁴These conditions always entail a willingness to be separate. ⁵At that level you can help it. ⁶You are much too tolerant of mind wandering, and are passively condoning your mind’s miscreations. ⁷The particular result does not matter, but the fundamental error does. ⁸The correction is always the same. ⁹Before you choose to do anything, ask me if your choice is in accord with mine. ¹⁰If you are sure that it is, there will be no fear.

It is possible to reach a state in which you bring your mind under my guidance without conscious effort, but this implies a willingness that you have not developed as yet. ²The Holy Spirit cannot ask more than you are willing to do. ³The strength to do comes from your undivided decision. ⁴There is no strain in doing God’s Will as soon as you recognize that it is also your own. ⁵The lesson here is quite simple, but particularly apt to be overlooked. ⁶I will therefore repeat it, urging you to listen. ⁷Only your mind can produce fear. ⁸It does so whenever it is conflicted in what it wants, producing inevitable strain because wanting and doing are discordant. ⁹This can be corrected only by accepting a unified goal. (ACIM, T-2.VI.6:1-9)

Everyone experiences fear. ²Yet it would take very little right thinking to realize why fear occurs. ³Few appreciate the real power of the mind, and no one remains fully aware of it all the time. ⁴However, if you hope to spare yourself from fear there are some things you must realize, and realize fully. ⁵The mind is very powerful, and never loses its creative force. ⁶It never sleeps. ⁷Every instant it is creating. ⁸It is hard to recognize that thought and belief combine into a power surge that can literally move mountains. ⁹It appears at first glance that to believe such power about yourself is arrogant, but that is not the real reason you do not believe it. ¹⁰You prefer to believe that your thoughts cannot exert real influence because you are actually afraid of them. ¹¹This may allay awareness of the guilt, but at the cost of perceiving the mind as impotent. ¹²If you believe that what you think is ineffectual you may cease to be afraid of it, but you are hardly likely to respect it. ¹³There are no idle thoughts. ¹⁴All thinking produces form at some level. (ACIM, T-2.VI.9:1-14)

Now that I am living from the queit center I notice how there is no thinker for 99% of thoughts - they are just nonsensical things popping up and passing away in my awareness. The trick is not to I give them my attention, so they rise and fall, rise and fall.  
 

The more conscious I am the less they appear, but if I am sleepy and I have’t been practicing stillness, then the light of awareness is not strong enough and thoughts are on a constant rampage. But if I go for a slow walk and remove drowsiness then there’s less of them.  
 

Although if I practice Presence alot then even slepiness isn’t able to reduce that bright awareness and there’s not many thoughts at all.  
 

When you begin to practice Presence it might seem impossible to silence this mind, but the stronger the Presence is, the less place there is for darkness to hide, and thoughts become less and less.

Our attention is like saying to the universe - I want of this more. So judgement always comes back to us. If we focus on someone being selfish, then we show the universe - I want to see more selfishness in my life. If we think of others as bad people, that's what the universe will bring to us. And we can always choose Peace instead of our judgments. That's what forgiveness is, and we always forgive ourselves. It's also helpful to remember that you were probably like that person at some point as well, and you can remember that you did not have another choice - at that level of consciousness, that's all you are capable of. Not to mention that you projected them out - it's your dream. So they are innocent, but if you judge them, then you are guilty, because your mind knows it's only you. Guilt always requires punishment, so whenever you judge, you make yourself guilty, and then the mind sends you proof of it. It hurts you because guilt requires punishment. That's why Jesus says, 'Judge not, that ye be not judged.' Very important. Live in Peace and life will reflect that peace back to you. That's what Jesus is teaching again and again.

Jesus is very clear about the fact that this life is a dream - exactly like dreams at night and he literally says that other people do not exist - they are wholly unreal, he says. This is not a shared dream. It only appears to be. That's the illusion - that there are other dreamers. It's the same as being asleep in your dreams at night and believing that the dream figures have their own private dreams.

My favourite quotes from ACIM about the nature of this experience I am having:

How Many Teachers of God Are Needed to Save the World?

1. The answer to this question is—one. ²One wholly perfect teacher, whose learning is complete, suffices. ³This one, sanctified and redeemed, becomes the Self Who is the Son of God. ⁴He who was always wholly spirit now no longer sees himself as a body, or even as in a body. ⁵Therefore he is limitless. ⁶And being limitless, his thoughts are joined with God’s forever and ever.

Dreams show you that you have the power to make a world as you would have it be, and that because you want it you see it. ²And while you see it you do not doubt that it is real. ³Yet here is a world, clearly within your mind, that seems to be outside. ⁴You do not respond to it as though you made it, nor do you realize that the emotions the dream produces must come from you. ⁵It is the figures in the dream and what they do that seem to make the dream. ⁶You do not realize that you are making them act out for you, for if you did the guilt would not be theirs, and the illusion of satisfaction would be gone. ⁷In dreams these features are not obscure. ⁸You seem to waken, and the dream is gone. ⁹Yet what you fail to recognize is that what caused the dream has not gone with it. ¹⁰Your wish to make another world that is not real remains with you. ¹¹And what you seem to waken to is but another form of this same world you see in dreams. ¹²All your time is spent in dreaming. ¹³Your sleeping and your waking dreams have different forms, and that is all. ¹⁴Their content is the same. (ACIM, T-18.II.5:1-20) -- my comment - impossible to misinterpret this if you are honest with yourself and want to see what Jesus really means. \

No one can waken from a dream the world is dreaming for him. ²He becomes a part of someone else’s dream. ³He cannot choose to waken from a dream he did not make. ⁴Helpless he stands, a victim to a dream conceived and cherished by a separate mind. ⁵Careless indeed of him this mind must be, as thoughtless of his peace and happiness as is the weather or the time of day. ⁶It loves him not, but casts him as it will in any role that satisfies its dream. ⁷So little is his worth that he is but a dancing shadow, leaping up and down according to a senseless plot conceived within the idle dreaming of the world.

What choices can be made between two states, but one of which is clearly recognized? ²Who could be free to choose between effects, when only one is seen as up to him? ³An honest choice could never be perceived as one in which the choice is split between a tiny you and an enormous world, with different dreams about the truth in you. ⁴The gap between reality and dreams lies not between the dreaming of the world and what you dream in secret. ⁵They are one. ⁶The dreaming of the world is but a part of your own dream you gave away, and saw as if it were its start and ending, both. ⁷Yet was it started by your secret dream, which you do not perceive although it caused the part you see and do not doubt is real. ⁸How could you doubt it while you lie asleep, and dream in secret that its cause is real?

12. A brother separated from yourself, an ancient enemy, a murderer who stalks you in the night and plots your death, yet plans that it be lingering and slow; of this you dream. ²Yet underneath this dream is yet another, in which you become the murderer, the secret enemy, the scavenger and the destroyer of your brother and the world alike. ³Here is the cause of suffering, the space between your little dreams and your reality. ⁴The little gap you do not even see, the birthplace of illusions and of fear, the time of terror and of ancient hate, the instant of disaster, all are here. ⁵Here is the cause of unreality. ⁶And it is here that it will be undone.

The Thought of God surrounds your little kingdom, waiting at the barrier you built to come inside and shine upon the barren ground. ²See how life springs up everywhere! ³The desert becomes a garden, green and deep and quiet, offering rest to those who lost their way and wander in the dust. ⁴Give them a place of refuge, prepared by love for them where once a desert was. ⁵And everyone you welcome will bring love with him from Heaven for you. ⁶They enter one by one into this holy place, but they will not depart as they had come, alone. ⁷The love they brought with them will stay with them, as it will stay with you. ⁸And under its beneficence your little garden will expand, and reach out to everyone who thirsts for living water, but has grown too weary to go on alone. Go out and find them, for they bring your Self with them. ²And lead them gently to your quiet garden, and receive their blessing there. ³So will it grow and stretch across the desert, leaving no lonely little kingdoms locked away from love, and leaving you inside. ⁴And you will recognize yourself, and see your little garden gently transformed into the Kingdom of Heaven, with all the Love of its Creator shining upon it. Got really silent and asked Spirit - what should I do regarding finances - I barely have enough to survive? I heard a little voice say: that’s not true. You eat well, live in a beautiful place with amazing views and in general have all that you need. And you work very little and are blessed with a job that causes no stress and you are surrounded by good people . Do nothing. Be where you are. Practice forgiveness. Walk in Silence. Be grateful for where you are in your awakening journey. The end of all dreams is near. It’s almost time for time to end. It’s actually harder to awaken when teaching - it brings you down back into concepts. 
 
Purpose is in the mind, not in telling others about ACIM. You can be 100% alligned with your Purpose and never talk about ACIM or spirituality ever again. But if you live from Silence, then you are quickly awakening from the dream and that is the Purpose. Relax and enjoy the end of the show. Your Purpose is to master Silence. Nothing more and nothing less.

That was very helpful. No matter how blessed I was at my job or with my living situation I always tried to reach for more. I was always running. Time to stop. Be grateful for what I have and focus on Silence alone. All else is arranged to aid in my awakening. I have to let go of all of my ego desires - they merely strenghten ego. What is helpful to Spirit is painful to the ego.

Oh wow, finally I have access to a deeper level of Peace. My desires to change, to improve, to teach were a block to this awareness. No more effort. No plans. No attempt to teach. Teaching is demonstrating Peace. Ambition is the cornerstone of ego. I choose Silence and all else will he taken care of by Spitit without my effort. That has happened before and is happening now. The problem was my desire for more. Ego always wants more. The thought-made identity is inherently lacking, so it’s primary objective is seeking. But the seeking is the thing to drop, and then Peace is here.

This brother who stands beside you still seems to be a stranger. ²You do not know him, and your interpretation of him is very fearful. ³And you attack him still, to keep what seems to be yourself unharmed. ⁴Yet in his hands is your salvation. ⁵You see his madness, which you hate because you share it. ⁶And all the pity and forgiveness that would heal it gives way to fear. ⁷Brother, you need forgiveness of your brother, for you will share in madness or in Heaven together. ⁸And you and he will raise your eyes in faith together, or not at all.

It’s so helpful to always remember that what I truly am is immortal, untouchable Spirit, the Sole Son of God, and now my mind is split. One part of my mind is my true Self - the abstract awareness out of which the whole dream is made, as well as dream figures, and the other part is ego - the insane voice talking to himself. That voice is never satisfied and is always scretching against something. It’s important to clearly see that that voice is a bastard child - it has no source, it’s just an unconscious program.  If we identify with that voice we become miserable, naturally. We must identify as the awareness and then the voice of ego begins to fade further and further away into the background. It’s no longer taken seriously and is seen as false, insane illusion - the opposite to who and what I truly am. In the end, that voice dissolves into nothingness from which it came and still is. Now when I look at it it’s like a silly child punching air - it no longer affects me.

I love the forgiveness process outlined by Apostles: 

1. You remember that you are the dreamer of the dream and you scripted the dream. Others are innocent, because you literally made them up, you made them act out for you. I created everyone here, just as I do in my nighttime dreams.
 

2. You think of them as perfect, innocent Spirit. How you see them you will see yourself, since every thought you think your unconscious mind interprets as though it’s about you, as it knows there’s only you and no one else. 
 

3. You enter the Miracle - the place of Silence - and stay there. The Course could also be called the Gospel of Now. It’s all about returning to Now and staying here until the dream is washed away by the eternal waves of Stillness.
