BTW, I'm very certain that Leo was born in Russia and is half Ukrainian.

No he doesn't know Russian at all. He lived in Russia for few years only.

I am fluent in Russian speech.

I listen to Putin in Russian. The American translations of Putin are quite bad. I could translate him more accurately.

I speak to my Mom in Russian.

We spoke Russian in the family all the time growing up.

I am not a Muslim at all, though I would love to give Sufism a try.

My father, and his side of the family, are Shi'ite Muslims descending from Lebanon. And my mother is Russian, with that side of the family being Orthodox Christian. I as well hold dual Russian-American citizenship and passports.

We still do, hearing him yap and then singing the anthem is quite nostalgic.

I watch Putin's speech every year :D, as well as speeches of many other leaders

I find them to be interesting

And here I was thinking I was the only one and my family was somehow weird.

But it is a tradition with most Russian families. I do know of a few edge case families who don't like the Government, President [Putin], & Ruling Party, so they don't tune in. But most do. 

Usually throughout most of the night, the TV will be playing some sort of concert. But as soon as the music begins in the first 10 seconds in the video below, everyone shuts up and listens to the big man speak.

 

Living in America my whole life, this gives off a kind of ~Orwellian~ or totalitarian vibe. Like... I can only imagine people in North Korea doing something like this.
