I will post about it on my blog soon as part of my recurring theft series.

Great work.

I watched this today 😁 that method honey uses is similar to what used to be called cookie stuffing. Not sure if cookie stuffing is illegal but it's certainly an old black hat method.

Nice share. Always knew they were fishy but this explained nicely how they actually take your chips.

It's so sneaky. There's no way Paypal knew about this and thought it was safe to acquire.

Lol

Of course they knew. That's why they acquired it.

This is exactly Paypal's MO.

You think someone pays $4B for a company without knowing where its core profits come from? This isn't rocket science.

Watched the video earlier today amazing work by the dude that did that investigation. I will assume they have also stolen from @Leo Gura thru affiliate links. 🤔

Not surprised considering it's Paypal owned.

Few weeks ago I lost around 150$ in fees for a transaction that was just over 2k$.

But hey, at least they're tranparent with their Paypal fees, while the Honey thing is just pure evil.

Considering they were bypassing the affiliate links for everyone that had the extension installed, even the youtubers that never promoted it - this might be one of the biggest scams ever, but we will probably never know the full scale.

Just crazy!

Never used affiliated link.

Never bought something from an ads a single time.

I must be strange, I have focus goal driven buy.

Beat me to it! @mmKay

Since Leo's postings about theft, and combined with my travels in India and learning about the scams that are everywhere, I have become extremely interested in the whole topic of scams and Theft. It is SO fascinating! Makes me excited to hear what Leo has gathered.

PayPal is such a cancer. Someone please explain to me how that useless piece of shit is still in business. It’s so bad and I’m surprised better alternatives haven’t just outright ran it out of business.

Use Wise or Stripe if you can, it has way lower commissions and you can email an invoice just like with PayPal .

I'm curious to see if Honey changes their business model after this. I think if a business like Honey legitimately do what they advertise and scour the web for the best coupon possible, then they deserve some reward for that. But it turns out they aren't finding you the best coupons most of the time, and they're stealing affiliate revenue even when they can't find you a coupon. Which is extremely scummy and greedy.

If they do what they advertise they'll make a lot less money, but at least it's somewhat legit. I don't see how else they can recover from this tbh.
