How I figured out what the ego is

@Flowerfaeiry not to burst your bubble, but I thought the same and now I don’t think I know actually. I have heard of there being positive and negative ego and I dont think the positive ego goes after enlightenment so yea. Just be open to being wrong that’s all I’ll say.

Most ppl the reach enlightenment, which is defined as a state of being that is permanent, dissolve at the same moment they say, for many it happens at the moment of physical death.. The Guru's, Rishis, Teachers that are enlightened stay on because 1) they know how to consciously create Karma to stay here to do certain work or 2) They know the mechanics of Life, can consciously manipulate it to do some work here as well.. all others dissolve, their individuality is gone, they merge with the Absolute, like a drop of the ocean being put back into the ocean, its no longer a drop.. So those that are Enlightened and here functioning, consciously create their ego for a certain purpose, whereas most of us are unaware of our ego, we live by accident and it controls us via our belief that it is us..

I would say a lot of it is in your felt experience. You feel like there is more to this existence for a reason probably, right? Maybe there’s nothing to it, maybe there is! I’ve personally always felt like there was something “more” probably much of that was due to my religious upbringing and then later on psychedelics sort of “told” me there was more…but lately I’ve been going through a faith crisis and realizing that much of what I believed was unconsciously just due to what I’d been taught by my parents and society. But I still deep down feel like there’s something special here so I’m going deeper so that my faith is based in something more real.

Sounds good. Do you mean that ego is in your felt experience, though? To be clear, I do consider the truth as graspable.

Faith can be useful for certain things but it might not have anything to do with finding out what's true. Do you mean faith that getting your nature is possible?

Ego is mostly just beliefs imo.

Like a (spider) web of beliefs woven together.

But what is it? What do we take the ego to be? What's our experience of it? Is it part of self? What is self?

Yea the separate self is the same as ego imo basically.

ChrisZoZo wrong about which part. Something special?

The thing is we can define it as the false self and then you’ll be correct, but that’s just because define it that way. But naturally enlightening people say that they have their true personality come out. The thing is we can have many layers. We are source a soul and we have influence from an oversoul. So then things get tricky because if we’re gonna go off a definition, which is the most accurate that it may not be something that goes away after enlightenment. The most accurate or useful definition can include the soul and oversoul in it.

so now taking this in do you think you know? That is the point I am trying to make.

Anyone who says they’re enlightened on this form in anyway is not, except me I am.

I think that There are two levels of ego. The first is the comparative, conceptual, social ego, which tells us who we are in contrast to others, whether we are handsome, lazy, etc. The next level is the ego that separates the physical being from the external. This level is genetic, supported by the fear of disappearing as a physical being.

transcending the first is difficult, transcending the second even more so. The temporary egoless state is the total absence of differentiation in which reality perceives itself as total.

@WelcometoReality ...but sky without the clouds is as boring as depressing when it's completely covered with them in a grey, monotonous way. Or imagine night sky without the stars... Things are not so 0-1 or black-white.

Could be, but enlighten people will also admit they don’t know anything so they may be wrong about ego also.

unless of course you find it as the false self then they know that is.

I’m not really entirely sure what you’re saying but yeah this didn’t change my mind.

There are stars and clouds aswell. No need trying to get rid of them. 🙂

After many many years of just not getting it I finally figured out what the ego is. This has been a huge missing piece in my spiritual development and once I learned, I was really able to start living more fully from my heart. The ego is simply the false self. And the piece that made me really “get it” is understanding that the ego masks *fully and completely* as the real self. To the point that we can’t tell the difference. They seem literally identical. Something about understanding that made me be like “ohh, now I can finally get down to the nitty gritty and start to figure out what my True Self really is vs. my ego self”. Maybe this will help you if you just haven’t really “gotten it” in terms of what the ego is or if this is old news to you too, lemme know how you finally “figured it out.”

Sorry, I don't get your post.  Don't take it personally but this sounds like just an intellectual game lol.

How do you make a difference between the "real" and the "false" self? You can't tell the difference, but at the same time you finally figured it out? :D

I think every time we think we "figured it out" it's just a temporary state where the mind program feels like "oh I made it, that is the equation how life works, that is the solution" :D . It its job to solve, and to compute a final result.  But if reality is infinite change, how can one solution (insight) ever be final?

@theleelajoker You can absolutely make a difference between real and false self. And no, there really is something to “figuring it out”.
