I highly recommend Daniel Schmachtenberger (however his name is spelled) booklist, it is available on his website and I find it higher quality than Leo's but the books are quite dense and yes they are worth internalizing, if you spend 4 years on his list of around 40 books (quality over quantity reading, not less time reading, but more reflection and deep reading) you will be all set for an awesome foundation.

Get a broad view by reading a ton and then you will know what bits you need to apply from which book for your unique purposes and needs.

“If you're going to try, go all the way. Otherwise, don't even start. This could mean losing girlfriends, wives, relatives and maybe even your mind. It could mean not eating for three or four days. It could mean freezing on a park bench. It could mean jail. It could mean derision. It could mean mockery--isolation. Isolation is the gift. All the others are a test of your endurance, of how much you really want to do it. And, you'll do it, despite rejection and the worst odds. And it will be better than anything else you can imagine. If you're going to try, go all the way. There is no other feeling like that. You will be alone with the gods, and the nights will flame with fire. You will ride life straight to perfect laughter. It's the only good fight there is.”

What do you mean by internalize?

Go after principles instead.

Ironically, when it comes to performing, just focusing on the result is a misstep--you need to pay attention to what precedes the result of any given process and catch yourself whenever a step wasn't appropriately done or wasn't done as well, as demanded by your goal.

It's like wanting your own grown tree right now without having done the requisite prior work. Watering the land, for example, comes after planting the seeds. At some point then, with the right conditions, and by being aware of the whole process throughout, you'll have a tree of your own.

Focusing on what precedes the end result is key.

Radical Wholeness by Wilber is really cutting edge. I like how he puts things in order.

@Ramanujan The books you read should be tailored to what you want to learn, and what your goals are. If you are pursuing success and purpose and career the books you wanna read should focus on that domain. Sprinkling in some spirituality can be good too.

I also think, if you are pursuing success that Brandon Burchards High Performance Habits is key. I feel bad his work isn’t discussed more on the forum. He is a fantastic high performance coach.

See, Leo is big picture which is nice. But, Brandon is far more practical with the day to day of staying motivated, healthy, joyful and developing excellence in life. They work together of course.

I didn't like "reading" Mastery.

I liked the core concepts and it can be learnt from less than 5 pages.

Don't expect books to make you satisfied or knowledgeable. Just use the bits of wisdom as effectively to gain real knowledge, first hand experience. Don't cling to second hand knowledge. Do your thing.

Who the hell knows but you? All depends on what is resonating with you now. What you feel you want to internalize.

Don't just read the most popular self-help books as recommended by other people. Look for what YOU want. It doesn't even have to be a self-help book, it can be something else (a biography, non fiction books, whatever).

Use Google. "Books on clear communication". "Books on becoming more productive". "Biographies of successful inventors".

You can use ChatGPT. "I want to become a clearer communicator. Recommend to me the best books for that."

Or even better: just go to a bookstore, look through books and find what resonates.

Here's an oldie but a goodie:

Compliments of Chat...whatever:

Show Me God: What the Message from Space is Telling Us about God is a book written by science journalist Fred Heeren that was first published in 1995. The book explores the implications of recent scientific discoveries for the existence of God. Heeren interviews cosmologists and physicists to discuss how their work has led them to consider God. The book also explains the anthropic finely tuned universe argument.

It depends on what you need.

If you are doing sales, read a book on sales.

If you are doing deep work, read a book on deep work. 🤣
