TYT is getting slammed by other progressive shows!

40 posts in this topic

I am really glad that progressive programs such as Majority Report, Hutch, The Vanguard, and the Humanist Report are calling out a lot of TYT's bullshit:

I also want to see all of these alternative left media people tear each other apart. Many of them really deserve it.

So many people have brainwashed themselves to hate the mainstream that their minds are now rotted.

That's what happens when you spend 10-15 years constantly criticizing mainstream media. What you get isn't better, it's worse.

Yea, but it’s hard when it feels like mainstream media speaks for their masters rather than the people….

Mainstream media simply reflects how the society is actually run, as opposed to fantasies of how it ought to be.

You are never getting rid of elites or hierarchy. Never. If you think you are you are just ignorant of how society works.

If you want to improve the status quo first you must understand it clearly. You can't just assume that your utopian ideals will work.

What you see with progressives and leftists is this constant struggle and denial that their ideas are unfeasible. Which is why they aren't already enacted.

Progressives want the world to be better but their minds are totally underequipped to face the realities of the world. The world is not better for very deep reasons, not shallow ones.

Mainstream is such a buzzword. You don’t get more mainstream than a podcaster worth hundreds of millions of dollars. You just swapped out one person at the top of the food chain for another.

Exactly. In practice all these anti-mainstream people are just aiming to become the new elites without even realizing it.

Bashing elites is very convenient for those who want to take their place.

What do you say to those who say that Trump got elected again because the majority of the country is angry at the establishment and the status quo?

So, are things with the anti-mainstream media outlets going to keep getting worse before they ever get better?

I say that voters are ignorant.

Progressives want the world to be better but their minds are totally underequipped to face the realities of the world. The world is not better for very deep reasons, not shallow ones.

Deep but not hard to understand. Let's do a few of them which cross most cultures existing today:

1) Instant Gratification. I want I take. Is a primary reason the world is as bad as it is. While it is natural to meet someone's needs, the speed at which this is demanded does fuel development, at the cost of pressure and stress on the global system. Its certainly going to get worse with gen z. While they are less money-focused, they have even weaker attention spans or resistance to instant gratification. I have seen some signs this is improving, but not much.

2) Different is resisted. Again it is natural to resist something outside of conscious reality, but the level of division is higher now. Contrast and uncertainty are feared more than at other periods in my lifetime, and by more people. This is somewhat influenced by diet and the resulting anxiety of chemical imbalances like sugar and poorer health generally affecting the body/mind. It is also the changing global circumstances, and saturation of media for money needing sensationalism (also reduced attention spans).

3) The Rich are hated more when things are hard. This is a theme throughout history. The more someone's survival is threatened, the less someone with 8 houses, 8 cars and a 500-pound boat is tolerated. The Rich are also able to sit on passive income streams once again in feudal top-down internet domains, making them more isolated; this is one of the biggest non-talked-about points in the inheritance debate. Wealth staying in websites, for example, means the rich kid never even needs to leave his home to see the working man or the real world, creating friction, disconnect, and frankly stupid choices on the part of the elites. See Hollywood for many great examples or almost all large corporations these days, whose workers loathe them.

Finally a note on progressives. That's their place leo. Their place is to push against the wall to move it an inch. Your constant denigration of that shows a lack of understanding on your part of their place in the collective. Sure people can be more effective in changing something, if they are capable of it, not everyone is. To constantly put down the populist left is to push it all to the right, but you and most others still haven't learned it.

Because my concern is to help you avoid getting your mind stuck at Green.

I don't want you to become the next Cenk/Ana/Hasan.

I'm not really interested in politics. I'm interested in taking your mind to higher levels of understanding. So I have a very different agenda than anyone in the political domain.

As much as I comment on politics my work is not political. That's why it's powerful.

@Leo Gura I’ve become more cynical as the years have gone on.  To see someone like Anna mock a “centrist” like Rubin endlessly only to be come the same. Is it pure grift maybe I’m missing something?

Damn I relate a lot with Cenk. Is that a problem?

My understanding is that dems are no longer relatable to the minds of common people. They seem so disconnected from the common folks while running high on their corporate money.

So they vote for the next most relatable dude who happened to be Trump. He took full advan of this relatability mismatch.

Republicans administrations always went on to bled the population dry in actual numbers.

It's not grift, it's just a lack of deeper sensemaking. Eventually the lack of epistemic seriousness catches up with you in the domain of politics. If you don't get the epistemology right then you will get stuck somewhere in Tier 1, lost in the human media noise. Eventually the quality of your sensemaking will be the glass ceiling of your political view.

The best example of how to do centrism correctly is Destiny. He has the best political analysis of anyone on the left.

Cenk has some good ideas and qualities but he's also delusional, as most clearly seen in his own political campaigns.

It is a problem if you want a deep and accurate understanding of reality and society.

I don't like this simple narrative.

That's the nature of demagogery.

Yeah, but people don't know or care about numbers. They want the vibes and their biases pandered to.

It seems so hard for people to recognise excesses of the far left without going apologia for Trump bs.  It’s baffling to think the the mainstream Dems are worse than the “anti establishment” MAGA crowd

Destiny strikes that balance correctly.

He pushes back against far left fantasies but is also super strict on MAGA pervertry. Which is the correct "middle way". That's my approach as well. You must call out MAGA as the perverts they are without giving them one inch, but you must also recognize the problems with the far left, and with the neoliberal corporate mainstream too. But you must not allow any false equivalency between far left and MAGA. And you must not demonize the "mainstream", avoiding the trap of falling for bad ideas just because they are anti-mainstream.

Indeed he does. Disagree with him on certain issues, but he has 0 tolerance for “centrist” bs.  In a similar camp as Sam Harris, who could’ve easily become an anti woke Trumper, but alienated the left and the right wing of his audience.

Notice what Sam Harris and Destiny have in common: intellectual integrity. They really care about the facts. They are not operating on vibes, dogma, or ideology. They are also not reactionaries or utopians. That's the key to higher stages of understanding.
