This is ridiculous. The west spammed this everywhere back when ISIS took over a third of Iraq. Thinking about three separate states in Iraq. But it’s dumb then and dumb now, especially when it comes to Syria. Firstly, Kurds don’t have much lands in Syria, and their villages are separated with Arab ones in between, and they’re Sunni anyways. As for the Shia regions, it’s too small for a tenable state.

Yes its dumb. If you are asking me if its what i'd pick, no of course not. I'd tell everyone to stop playing zero-sum, geo-political games.

This however, is the natural conclusion to several different world powers all wanting influence in Syria, and their populations/leadership being unable to work as one global collective.

If you want the solution talk about a global collective often, and when someone starts saying how they hate one side or the other, or want to see them destroyed, start trying to tell them how insane that is. On the meta they are literally saying they want to destroy that part of themselves.

It’s not a conclusion to anything. It can’t happen in Syria because the lands of the minorities is way too small to be a self sufficient state. You can’t even grow a population. It’s like making Gaza a state.

Not quite.
It's like making Gaza a state directly bordering a large regional power supporting it.

I mean in europe there are city states; the size is irrelevant.

Assad regime will be missed.

May Allah unleash his wrath on the ulterior forces and Jihadists that wrecked this beautiful country.

Yea that’s just the different areas that militias control. The Kurdish led forces control a large portion of Arab cities and lands but the actual Kurdish lands isn’t that.

Brain rot take. The country was destroyed because of the Arab spring’s objective of ousting dictators and Assads response in butchering his own people.

And let’s not even talk about how much more blood will be spilled because of said wrath. How about the people in Syria have suffered enough?

Wow, that was fast. It appears that the Assad regime was militarily very weak, too dependent on foreign forces that did not react fast, probably because they couldn't. The dictator and his family evacuated, probably never to return. This is a colossal NATO victory and a game-changer in the region.

What happens next is a good question.

The participants will ask for their piece of the pie. Israel will be getting the Golan Heights, as a Western actor, it's gonna ask for it, and get it. The line between Iran and Lebanon is closed. Hezbollah is strong right now, but without this line, its capability in the long run may be compromised. Turkey will ask for control in the North, or the North itself. The Northeast is Kurdish, and Turks hate Kurds, and Kurds hate Turks, so I don't anticipate much peace in the region. The USA will get the oil and steal all the money in Syria and put it in New York, as they did with Iraq. Iran and Russia will be mad, but there's nothing they can do now.

The Jihadists are heavily armed now, can NATO have them under control? I don't know. It's gonna be ugly if not. Before a democracy is installed, if it is, with the Western-approved options-puppets given to the people, a lot of heads may be chopped off.

I'm just making some predictions, so time will tell.

Oh yeah replacing them with 5 different factions of Jihadists is going to turn out well.

Do you expect a coalition government or what?

Let’s be honest. American and Israeli interest is to have a Hamas/Muslim brotherhood style of government in Syria over a Russian and Iranian backed regime. This new regime can easily be permanently branded as terroristic at any point in time and doesn’t have the potential to obtain the same level of allies. This is all part of the plan. Syria is cooked. Just like Afghanistan. Just like Iraq. Just like Lebanon. Just like Egypt. Just like Libya. All these counties are designed to fail.

I’m not buying into this pessimistic conclusion.
Syria will become successful, we have everything we need for that.

History has plenty of precedent where this is not the case and every reason to think that this would be worse not better.

Americans are too enthusiastic to do regime change only for it to be a cluster fuck down the road.

All of this to protect the interests of that state. The fantasy of control they will have is flimsy and short lived. It's going to become another rouge state that you have to deal with for decades to come.

"Did Iraq become a flourishing democracy post-Saddam. How about Afghanistan post-Taliban. How about Libya post-Gaddafi. I'm sure Syria post-Assad will be a successful regime change operation.

20 straight years of this stuff and people still don't get it."

It’s strange there was barely any resistance or push back from Russia / Iran and Assad’s forces. It seems they were overwhelmed and Russia / Iran stood down after having agreed upon who knows what.

Let’s hope Syria can consolidate itself and rebuild. My friends from Homs who are abroad are all celebrating with glee - understandably. Many Syrians know someone who’s been taken in or killed by Assad.

It’s understandable why people automatically assume the worst about whoever the West backs as history is littered with examples of disastrous interventions. Afghanistan, Iraq, Libya - they back a faction, topple a government, and leave chaos in the wake.

Syria complicates this reflexive cynicism because some factions claim to represent the will of the majority, fighting against Assad’s oppressive regime. The problem is that even when the West backs a valid cause, their track record of turning allies into pawns for imperial ambitions makes it hard to believe motives are pure.

If these factions are who they claim to be - reformed moderates wanting to unify the country - all well. People aren’t rejecting these factions outright - they’re rejecting the baggage that comes with Western support. It’s sold as liberation when really it’s subservience to those who funded your uprising.

The West’s involvement taints the cause. It’s hard to separate genuine liberation movements from imperial imposition when history shows the latter almost always dominates.

Another thing thats hard to parse is how natural movements and causes are. Real grassrooots movements get hijacked and amplified to something larger they naturally are - and may not represent the will of the majority. Some causes not only get amplified, but metastasize into something very different to serve different interests.

So reflexive skepticism of Western involvement isn’t paranoia, it’s awareness of the track record. People need sovereignty, not saviours who will twist their causes into imperial ambition.
