Hello, i am creating this thread to develop an understanding of nutrition. I know little about this field so sharing resources would be great.

A general rule for me is to try and stick to real food. 80/20 is a good ratio or 70/30; no lower than that where 70/80% is real food. By real food, I mean buying real apples instead of in a can or raw or frozen spinach instead of canned or creamed or fresh pineapple instead of the ones in boxes or canned. Stuff like that. Limit junk foods and processed foods and white breads and boxed up cereals. Things in the center isle of the supermarket.

That said, everybody is different and requires different nutrients and supplements. Some can't ingest gluten or vegetables or meat because of autoimmune disease. You have to get to know your allergens and body type, also blood type if there are issues with certain foods. I developed a peanut allergy later on in life, and now I can't eat them but that doesn't mean others can't.

As far as vitamins and supplements, some are generic for most and some are needed more because of lifestyle or age. These become more personalized and is best to do the corresponding searches and get good quality information according to your own needs. Vegetarian VS carnivore diet is a debatable issue even amongst the experts, so is coffee, eggs and wheat products and dairy. These need to be personalized and not a general consensus because we all have different blood and body types.

Get to know your body and go from there; but the general rule is to stick to mostly holistic foods in their natural form.

Videos on vegetarianism VS the carnivore diet won't help much for beginners as it's usually a personal preference and studies on both sides have shown both can be a good choice. Maybe look more for less debatable issues to start and get a more rounded, generalized view on health and nutrition before getting into these controversial topics. I will try to search for a video that suits this topic or comes close.

If I would try to get a foundational understanding of nutrition I would read from major sources like the Nordic Nutrition Recommendations which is based on a lot of science.

This shit is about promoting vegan diet "for environment" when the  whole Scandinavia must represent ar worst some percentage of greenhouse gas emissions in general; In general the idea of veganism will even help to reverse climate change is an absolute nonsense and is an excuse to push the vegan agenda.

+ The foods promoted are horrible for gut and hormonal health.

I like Doctor Robert Kiltz.

It's a very pleasant and rational person.

How is a plant centered diet bad for gut and hormonal health?

I don’t follow their recommendations exactly btw. For example I don’t have a problem with high fat dairy products , they recommend low fat ones.

Just in general if I try to get a foundational understanding of nutrition I would read the major government recommendations because they’re not there for no reason, there’s science behind it. And also on top of that I follow some various people who speak within the topic. Trying to listen to the ones who use science to back their claims. I like dr Layne Norton for example. Simon Hill is also good imo, he is in the OPs post. And Christopher D. Gardner.

Also how is a more plant centered diet not better for environment?

Forget videos and debates. Gotta go back to the basics if you want to build solid foundations. Makes one immune to quackery. See if you can find these in second hand or similar alternatives.

  • Advanced Nutrition and Human Metabolism 8e + MindTap for Advanced Nutrition and Human Metabolism
  • Organic Chemistry Paperback – 20 July 2001 by Jonathan Clayden , Nick Greeves, Stuart Warren, Peter Wothers

Very foundational and in-depth: Dr. Dan Stickler and Daniel Schmachtenberger on Foundations of Nutrition, specifically for Brain-Health:

“If you're going to try, go all the way. Otherwise, don't even start. This could mean losing girlfriends, wives, relatives and maybe even your mind. It could mean not eating for three or four days. It could mean freezing on a park bench. It could mean jail. It could mean derision. It could mean mockery--isolation. Isolation is the gift. All the others are a test of your endurance, of how much you really want to do it. And, you'll do it, despite rejection and the worst odds. And it will be better than anything else you can imagine. If you're going to try, go all the way. There is no other feeling like that. You will be alone with the gods, and the nights will flame with fire. You will ride life straight to perfect laughter. It's the only good fight there is.”

Because they promote foods like legumes, various FODMAPs, and high fiber foods in general and they will systematically cause gut pain according to an individual threshold.

I don't know these doctors.

You trust whoever you want you are intelligent but in my case every time i go on a similar diet i lose weight, i become weaker, my libido decreases, i have more gas and i even develop attacks of colopathy ; It also seems very anti-natural.

If i let myself go with my instinct i naturally tend toward a diet of meat espacially pork for some reasons, cheese, pasta/rice potatoes, butter/duck fat, some well cooked legumes, cashew or hazelnuts, and some fruits.

Doesn’t it only cause problems for people who are sensitive?

Thanks

If it doesn’t work for you then you know to stay away from it ofc. Whatever feels the best is probably the best. I will try to adjust my diet and see how it goes. I eat a lot of chicken for example and will try to replace it with veggies sometimes.

It looks like a kind of cottage cheese but without salt, meant to be eaten sweet.

I don't trust any of those big companies like the WHO, FDA, PHARMACEUTICALS etc, they are usually connected and profit-based, and are not holistic enough. Anybody that recommends low fat dairy or anything low fat for that matter, that is not originally low fat, I don't trust. Ever seen the foods served in hospitals and that the WHO recommends to sick out-patients. The food pyramid is also misleading. I go with private institutions, holistic companies and nothing to do with the government. The FDA permits poisons on the supermarket shelves and a lot of people that work as pharmacists are ex-FDA employees - I know because I knew one personally.

I’m not really sure what to even trust. But it seems from what I’ve read the Nordic nutrition recommendation is based on a big body of research and that’s why I saw it as a good part of a foundation, to see one perspective of what the science says. It’s not for no reason they say that. There’s this quote too I’ve heard “Eat food. Mostly plants, not too much” . I personally don’t follow the recommendation about low fat diary for example. So I don’t follow it all. And I also make sure to feel for myself what feels good to eat
