Why do people fall for romance scams?

17 posts in this topic

I don’t understand how people give thousands of dollars to strangers on the internet they have never met. I saw one video where a woman gave like 100k away to a Nigerian scammer but claims she’s never given her own husband a dime. What is the psychology behind this?

Once you realize it's all stories, all made up, that life is nothing but a bunch of chaotic mess to the mind that needs to fit in, these types of questions and inquiries fall away and are of no concern. It is your mind that can't make sense of this. You have constructed a world made of beliefs, concepts and ideas for yourself and anything that either contradicts that or doesn't fit in, you question.

Who is to say it's wrong or even insane to give away money to a stranger you haven't met. You. Why not ask why do you keep watching and believing in these stories.

I have an aunt that's 70years old and she almost fell for it,she couldnt even comprehend how someone can fake their profile.(some)Women that age would rather give all their belonging just so they can be with someone, its crazy. Those scammers use tactics to get them attached over selling dream of living with them. They are always divorced, have alot of money and with one child looking to swap countries promising to buy a house near them.Same story every time lol.

If you're doing that online, there are ways to prevent it.

In abstract terms, yes. 🙂

However, I was speaking from a practical perspective.

There is no more power than in a human being to love and to be loved.

All we do is ultimately for this sole purpose.

Exploiting this vulnerability is effective.

She's probably feeling meh about her husband and projected her need for affection on the scammer.

The psychology of traps.

They baited her with a loving boyfriend and money. People will fall for it because they seek survival advantage.

Here is what GPT says about it:

The idea that everything we do is for love is a philosophical and psychological perspective that reflects the belief that, at a deeper level, all human actions are motivated by the desire for love, connection, and acceptance. This doesn't necessarily mean romantic or familial love in the conventional sense, but a broader notion of love as the driving force behind our desires, intentions, and choices. Here's a deeper look into this concept:

Love as a Fundamental Human Need: Psychologists such as Abraham Maslow in his hierarchy of needs identified love and belonging as fundamental to human well-being. We seek love in various forms—whether through social connections, approval, or self-love—because it gives us a sense of purpose and fulfillment. Even actions that may appear self-serving, such as acquiring wealth or power, can often be traced back to the desire for love or validation.

Love as a Source of Meaning: Many philosophers and spiritual teachers, including Carl Jung and Eckhart Tolle, argue that love is not only a fundamental force but also a key to personal growth and meaning. When we seek truth, knowledge, or success, we often do so with the intention of improving our lives and the lives of others, which is ultimately tied to our desire for deeper connection and love.

Motivations for Action: Even in difficult or painful circumstances, when people act out of fear, anger, or frustration, it's often a reflection of unmet needs for love, safety, or acceptance. For example, when someone acts aggressively or defensively, it may stem from a lack of love or the fear of losing love and connection, whether that be through fear of abandonment, rejection, or isolation.

The Desire for Unconditional Love: Some philosophical and spiritual teachings suggest that every action, whether consciously or unconsciously, can be seen as an attempt to return to a state of pure, unconditional love—whether that's love for oneself, for others, or even a deeper connection to the universe.

In essence, this view asserts that the pursuit of love, in all its forms, is a central, underlying force that drives human actions.

--

We don't do stuff primarily for survival. Survival is what happens when we are feeling disconnected from Love.

Women want to feel that the rich, attractive, globe trotting man  of their dreams is their soul mate because they simply are that special. The so called female intuition stops working in these scenario's and is suppressed to feed the feminine ego.
