Many of these alt-right people are just 18 year old boys who will grow out of it.

I know 2 person's in France who were extreme left even participated in politics events at 16 they turned extreme right at 30 ultra nationalists.

I know a very intelligent and open minded guy ( + gay ) watched most of your stuff, still voted trump.

It's easy to understand reality when you forget spiral dynamic.

People are driven by aesthetic not by moral virtue. Unless being moral is seen as aesthetic.

The reason people are racist is the same as why girls prefer tall guy.

They might grow out of it too. But still.

I’ve always disliked this over-earnest, self-righteous “how I escaped X or Y” type of content.

He’ll just go on to delude himself with something else.

Oh mother, I can feel the soil falling over my head… And as I climb into an empty bed, oh well, enough said… I know it’s over, still I cling, I don’t know where else I can go… Over…

Alt-right ideology is the most toxic thing to be consumed by. It makes your life a living hell. I’m speaking from experience here. I think it’s really good that former alt-right-wingers share their story and potentially help others out of it.
We generally also need a lot more admitting of being wrong by right-wingers, which Leo brilliantly has talked about.

A lot of “alt-right” ideology is just self-help with a right-wing bent. That’s how Jordan Peterson became famous, for example.

This will probably improve your life, whatever that is worth…

I just find it snivelling and disingenuous. It comes from an over-socialised schoolgirl desire to be approved of.

Of course he has.

Sentiments like this fail to grasp the inherently polemical, “friend-enemy” nature of politics. Why would you admit you were wrong to people you despise and who despise you? Especially when you know they are never going to admit to being wrong.

Absolutely not. Jordan Peterson was actually the guy who got me into it. It brought me nothing but hate and suffering.

Because you are an adult.

Plenty of people would say the opposite…

You’re overly attached to the idea of yourself as having undergone some wholesome redemption arc.

Dream on! Especially in America, modern politics is infantile.

Maybe. All I know is that my right-wing years were some of the worst years of my life. My life is really good today and I don’t despise anyone anymore. Especially not for their political takes.

Yeah, hard to argue against that!

People will have to start acting like adults sooner or later though.

Fair enough, that is good to hear.

I have been finding that I am moving beyond political concerns. When I was younger I was essentially a hippy who happened to read Nietzsche, whereas for the last few years I have been more interested in the Right.

I have certainly found that my “right-wing” years have been more angry and frustrated. However, I think that anger was always there and I was simply repressing it before. It has been a necessary phase for me, even if it was negative in some respects.

Yes… In the meantime, I will be sitting, looking out of my window and waiting for it to happen like this:
