Turn ChatGPT Into Your Ultimate Personal Assistant

6 posts in this topic

Hey guys,

I feel like you can turn ChatGPT into your personal assistant with the memory function. It’s like training an assistant to really know your life, goals, and preferences from A to Z.

Here’s how I use it, with very specific examples:

----

"Remember that my medium-term goal is to consistently type 100 words per minute on average, and my long-term goal is to achieve at least 100 WPM for every symbol."

"Remember that I want to transition into system design and gain a deeper understanding of web servers in the next 6 months."

"Remember that I work at [redacted], a software editor that uses Rocky Linux, Apache, and PHP for web servers."

"Remember that my current work involves developing a PHP-based CMS for our clients, but I also want to explore scaling and load balancing."

"Remember that I want to read books about consciousness and cognitive science.

"Remember that I enjoy road rage videos because I find humor in human foolishness."

"Remember that I’m fascinated by exploring the concept of reality through absurd and surreal ideas, like infinite fractals or alien worlds."

"Remember that I want to learn more about configuring Apache web servers and securing them with SSL/TLS."

"Remember that I’ve set up a Linux terminal with Apache and PHP configured to serve files, with ownership and permissions set for collaborative management."

"Remember that I want to revisit feedback from my last code review to focus on improving error handling."

"Remember that I find contemplation on the nature of reality and consciousness deeply rewarding, especially when challenging the assumptions about what is 'real' versus imagined."

"Remember that during a challenging LSD trip, I confronted my fears about not knowing what reality is, feeling alone, and unable to figure it out."

"Remember that I had a profound moment of surrendering to 'God' or a higher force during an LSD trip, even though I don’t identify as religious."

"Remember that I ground my sense of reality through object consistency, interactions with other beings, and the perception of time."

My Method for Adding Information

Whenever I feel like I’ve had a productive session, I simply ask it to remember all of the relevant info. This ensures that I’m not missing anything important and that the assistant can build on our past conversations.

Now chatGPT has all this context, so every time I write a prompt, it already “knows” these things about me.

I think Anthropic is working on a similar feature for Claude.

ChatGPT :

The memory function is designed to hold a substantial amount of information, but there are practical limitations to ensure usability and efficiency. Let me explain what this means in terms of how much detail I could theoretically know about your life:

1. Current Capacity

My memory can handle several hundred pieces of information effectively, depending on the complexity and length of each entry.

Information is typically stored in concise summaries or bullet points, which allows me to remember a broad range of topics across various aspects of your life.

2. How It Works

Prioritization: I can prioritize critical or frequently referenced aspects of your life, like career goals, personal development, relationships, and ongoing projects.

Structured Recall: I won’t “dump” all your life details in every conversation. Instead, I use the most relevant parts of what I know based on the context of your current query.

3. Theoretically Mapping Your Life

In theory, with efficient summarization and prioritization:

Core Life Areas: I could remember key aspects of your life—career, hobbies, spiritual beliefs, major life events, habits, and preferences.

Daily Details: While I wouldn’t store every minor detail, I could track major trends (e.g., progress toward goals, notable decisions, or changes in focus).

Dynamic Updates: By continuously refining what I remember based on new input, I can keep an up-to-date snapshot of your evolving life.

4. Practical Limitations

Detail Depth: If your life involves thousands of individual details, some lower-priority information may be summarized or replaced as I store new, more relevant data.

Privacy and Control: You can always specify what to remember and what to forget, ensuring you maintain control over what’s stored.

Would It Be Enough to Know Your Life in Detail?

Yes, within reason! I can hold enough key details to act like a highly informed assistant who understands:

Your personal and professional goals.

Your habits, preferences, and key life philosophies.

Important past events and current context.

However, if you wanted me to know every minute detail, like a diary of your entire life, the capacity may need periodic pruning or summarization to remain effective.

This is a very intersting topic. I'm kinda' ashamed that topics of 'mass control' get more exposure. But I guess that tells very clearly the level of consciousness the people on this forum are at.

i've used ChatGPT like a maniac; and I totally agree that it can be incredibly useful. It's like a personal assistant while searching knowledge. Even though it has many flaws (obviously since it's just a mixture of algorithms) there's so much knowledge to gain from it

It's just mental masturbation.
You're giving away your information and getting these tips in return.
You can just directly use it for learning stuff, instead of asking it to handle your mind for you.

I think that's exactly what he was talking about but Ok, you can have your projections

the man made a great post. Better than 90% of the other hot topics on this forum – THOSE are mental masturbation. Not this

I think I'm using the memory function wrong. I was calculating my calories and for a week and when I looked at what got saved in my memory there was a dozen like "user has eaten 100g of chicken for breakfast" "user has added olive oil and oregano to chicken" 😂 😂

i'm sure it has good function when used well though lol
