Christian Democracy - healthy Blue/Green conservative alternative to corrupt Trumpism

9 posts in this topic

In the coming fight against Trumpism insanity, a lot of conservatives are going to end up completely baffled at the dark actions him and his administration are going to take, but because of their ideology - anything pro-democracy, holistic, pro-worker, pro-immigration rights etc will be seen as “leftist communism”, they will have no framework to support these things and instead double-down on their scapegoating and victim mentality.

This is where Christian Democracy comes in - a political movement that is socially conservative, yet unlike the reckless Trumpist capitalism, is also deeply pro-worker, pro-human rights, pro-environment, etc. In the fight against Trumpism, these sorts of well-meaning conservatives with stage Green economics will be key in undermining its power.

Of course, in social issues like abortion, gay marriage etc they’re still far from progressive, but in the fight to preserve democracy we cannot let the perfect be the enemy of the good. It’s much better if democracy and workers rights survive even if half of their voters oppose abortion, rather than letting right-wing authoritarianism and no one ends up with any rights.

There will be no Christian democracy. It will be Christian Nationalism, and it is authoritarian. Christian’s will take by force, and their aim is to stamp out your fancy ideas and convert you to their way. They will force Christian mythology onto the children of atheists and other religions and they will use their mythology to strip rights, remove good laws and install regressive ones in accordance with their delusions, and diminish science and institutions. This is an overt attack on the constitution and a blow to the heart of America. The whole point of the US is to not be under tyrannical rule.

When the time comes, you should advocate for rebellion, not passive acceptance.

If truth is the guide, there's no need for ideology, right or left.

Maturity in discussion means the ability to separate ideas from identity so one can easily recognize new, irrefutable information as valid, and to fully integrate it into one’s perspective—even if it challenges deeply held beliefs. Both recognition and integration are crucial: the former acknowledges truth, while the latter ensures we are guided by it.

This movement has no real political influence though.

The only ideology most conservatives have any interest in is neoconservatism.

American Christians are as dumb as humans get and they will act accordingly by supporting the dumbest president of all time.

There is no healthy conservatism in America. It's corrupt and sick.

The problem with Christian politicians is that they often go against the teachings of the Bible.

They ignore a lot of what Jesus says, and do the complete opposite.

This makes them very unpredictable.

If they are already ignoring what Jesus says, then exactly, what would this "Christian democracy" be based on?

The Bible warns about a group of people called the Pharisees.

Basically, a group of people who used God's name and even have the Bible memorized, but were dead inside like a rotting corpse.

The issue with Christian politicians and Christian nationalists are that they often resemble the Pharisees............ which the Bible warns about.

“Woe to you, teachers of the law and Pharisees, you hypocrites! You give a tenth of your spices—mint, dill and cumin. But you have neglected the more important matters of the law—justice, mercy and faithfulness. You should have practiced the latter, without neglecting the former. - Matthew 23:23

"Woe to you, teachers of the law and Pharisees, you hypocrites! You travel over land and sea to win a single convert, and when you have succeeded, you make them twice as much a child of hell as you are. - Matthew 23:15

“Woe to you, teachers of the law and Pharisees, you hypocrites! You clean the outside of the cup and dish, but inside they are full of greed and self-indulgence. - Matthew 23:25

“Woe to you, teachers of the law and Pharisees, you hypocrites! You shut the door of the kingdom of heaven in people’s faces. You yourselves do not enter, nor will you let those enter who are trying to. - Matthew 23:13

“Woe to you, teachers of the law and Pharisees, you hypocrites! You are like whitewashed tombs, which look beautiful on the outside but on the inside are full of the bones of the dead and everything unclean. - Matthew 23:27

You can't actually be socially conservative and pro-human rights in a way that's meaningful in 2024. To revert back to social conservatism would be to cut back significantly on hard-won human rights over the past century.

To be socially conservative is a paradigm that aligns with living in a small, mono-cultural, mono-religious, agrarian, patriarchal community where there are rigid gender roles to ensure that land is passed from father to son. And sexuality must be tightly controlled. And everyone has a role to play in a very rigid hierarchy... where men are at the top, the women are governed by the men, then the children are owned by the men but cared for by the women.

And all social deviants (like gay people, trans people, people of other cultures/races, women who intermarry with other races, people who don't subscribe to the "one true religion", or other "degenerates") are kicked out from the rigid hierarchy of society.

This is the paradigm social conservatives are operating off of.

And to adopt that way of thinking would be to regress and undercut the rights of women, gay people, trans people, everyone in the out-group religions, and everyone in the out-group cultures/ethnicities/races.

Also, you can't have a democratic theocracy. Those two things also don't go together.

I agree with this.

Social conservatives are also a God amongst themselves. They are their own God. Their agenda just uses the terms "Christian" or "Bible" as a mask to get into the room.

This is why even Atheists are puzzled right now at what is happening. As many Atheists read and study the Bible thoroughly for debates....they realize "Wait, this is even beyond the Bible. This is a different agenda altogether."

The Bible itself does not support this rigid Patriarchal White Supremacy type of society.

"There is neither Jew nor Gentile, neither slave nor free, nor is there male and female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus." - Galatians 3:28

"Learn to do right; seek justice. Defend the oppressed. Take up the cause of the fatherless; plead the case of the widow." - Isaiah 1:17

I have a couple of books on my wishlist written by Christians authors, themselves, who are pushing against the social conservative agenda:

Christian Books against Patriarchy:
The Making of Biblical Womanhood: How the Subjugation of Women Became Gospel  -Beth Allison Barr
How God Sees Women: The End of Patriarchy -  by Terran Williams
The Bible vs. Biblical Womanhood: How God's Word Consistently Affirms Gender Equality - Philip Barton Payne
Jesus Feminist: An Invitation to Revisit the Bible's View of Women - Sarah Bessey
Recovering from Biblical Manhood and Womanhood: How the Church Needs to Rediscover Her Purpose - Aimee Byrd

Christian Books against White Supremacy/Christian Nationalism:
The Kingdom, the Power, and the Glory: American Evangelicals in an Age of Extremism - Tim Alberta
The False White Gospel: Rejecting Christian Nationalism, Reclaiming True Faith - Jim Wallis
White Evangelical Racism: The Politics of Morality in America - Anthea D. Butler
America's Original Sin: Racism, White Privilege, and the Bridge to a New America - Jim Wallis
When God Became White: Dismantling Whiteness for a More Just Christianity - Grace Ji-Sun Kim
The Religion of Whiteness: How Racism Distorts Christian Faith - Michael O. Emerson
