Would you consider Elon Musk to be a positive role model?

22 posts in this topic

Edit: I write this post in complete disregard of his politics. When answering this thread, try put Elon’s political engagements aside. If you really think his politics is an inducement aspect of who he is, then fine. But I am mainly asking about his STEM and business career.

Sincere question.

Do you consider Elon Musk to be a good role model? I mean on the surface he has everything right in life. He graduated an Ivy League school with a STEM degree, he's immensely rich and accomplished, and single handily forwarded mankind's progress in space travel, and is preparing mankind to become a multi-planet multi-stelar species.

But I remember an Actualized video from a while back, Successful People Are Not Happy, where he specifically mentioned Elon Musk by name, along with people like Arnold Schwarzenegger, which is strange because Arnold's autobiography is in the book list.

So which is it? Doesn't Elon Musk fit Abraham Maslow's definition of a self-actualized person? Isn't he living his life purpose? Or is he secretly miserable

Is he a positive role-model for young men? Certainly he is a better role-model than Andrew Tate.

I think this video is as well a good primer for this discussion. https://www.actualized.org/insights/inside-the-mind-of-trump

I remember Elon Musk used to be considered respectable and cool. I used to have a roommate that read his biography looked up to him. Smoking a joint on Joe Rogan was a certified gamer moment.

I don't the things that highlighted Elon Musk as a role model are gone. He is a visionary, that is still true despite his egomania that has become apparent since he bought Twitter (which is when he stopped being iconic I think).

Depends on what you value and want out of life.

If what you want is to be rich and successful, then yes.

If you want something higher than that, then no.

He definitely was before that personal crisis of his somewhere in 2020-2022 radicalized him.

So careerwise yes, if you don’t count the massive overworking.

Emotionally no.

Absolutely not. Elon building space civilization is akin to US invading lands from natives. No matter how I put it, I see just this. He's not working to improve human kind.

Take a look at real men, like Jacques Fresco. You'll see the difference clearly.

elon is probably neurodivergent, maybe some type of high-functioning autism? i think he works like 18h/day like almost everyday. the exact details are in his biography. i dont think you could replicate in a healthy way nor do you even need that

i think you could probably glean some positive aspects from him, like having a noble purpose, working hard & being efficient, and maybe some character traits in this area.

His ethics obviously not anymore

He cannot think clearly and that's a massive error in character/persona in someone with that kind of power.

I have followed this Youtube channel for years now, while the majority of my friends and others still thought highly of him at the time. The channel helped my friends see through him at the least.

This video and lots of the content is much before he got into politics and Twitter too.

This entire channel is dedicated to calling him out. I highly recommend it. Years worth of info.

He has self-identified before as having Asperger's, which is a label that no longer exists in the latest DSM (RIP).

Gotta scrub out those Nazi roots.

@Husseinisdoingfine On the surface he can be. Once you gain any substance of what hes doing or is he stops being a role model and looks like an idiot pretending to be smart. This image is how I see Elon Musk. Someone who is very upset about something and is angry about it. Hes a hurting baby.

I used to have quite some respect for Elon and felt he was highly relatable too, truly, but he's become an ego-maniac, I suspect he has unresolved healing work to do, a common problem with men, who tend to be better at "dissociating". It's possible that he is just hiding his pain with this worldly stuff.

It's very possible that he struggles with loneliness due to not finding "someone like him".

You know it's kind of weird, I saw him say that he would maybe like to "meet Jesus" one day (a rather uncommon thing for someone to say). It's like.. the chance of that happening is pretty low due to his current status. But you never know, LOL. You could say that a lot of his intentions behind the companies were about "saving/improving mankind", so it makes sense that he may be receptive (to Jesus)..

Anyway what I am trying to say is that, Elon at the peak of his career (some years ago) was inspiring to me, I don't know what happened to him, I think there is a lack of positive influence in his circle. It's like, once you become rich, it's almost like, you get caught in that life and the people in that, and none of them are likely to be a sage/philospher or to "debate with him"... so I feel like he is cut off from that and became more and more delusional than he was previously...sadly.

It's a good example of how status, money, success can corrupt you.

Elon Musk's mother is a witch . You can google photos of her. His father owned diamond mines in South Africa. His success is not the result of hardwork . I cannot go further as i will be banned. If you do the digging , u will find the truth

I think the world would benefit if there were more people like Elon Musk. He provides good value and has a good heart in my judgement.

I highly doubt this. No one can do complex work for 18 hours a day. There are studies which show that working more than 40 hours a week decreases productivity.

If he is working 18 hours day, then it’s not complex work like programming.

Those studies sample size are for average people, not the world's highest performers. If the sample size of those studies was only the top .000001% I'm sure the outcome would be different

But yeah I agree regardless, I wasn't implying pure deep work for 18 hours

The world needs more maturity, not man-children like Musk and Trump who can't handle being opposed or not getting their way.

Absolutely, He's the richest person in the world by a large margin and got there without breaking any laws or being grossly immoral. That's remarkable.
