MAGA Attorney General nominee withdrawn!

Matt Gaetz, who is no doubt one of the most MAGA Republicans in the country has officially withdrawn his nomination for US Attorney General.

I am not that surprised given the growing amount of bad news he was getting about his nomination. 

I know he's one of the most corrupt Republican politicians in America, particularly because of his history of being involved in a sex scandal, but how come Trump, MAGA, and the Republican party as a whole didn't just decide to sweep all of Gaetz's wrongdoings under the rug and let him get confirmed?

I mean Trump and his whole party have all become corrupt to such incredible historic dimensions and they now control the White House, both chambers of Congress, the US Supreme Court, and a majority of the other federal-level courts throughout the country. Plus, Trump now will have absolute immunity for "official acts." So, what could've stopped them from allowing Gaetz to be the new US Attorney General?

Because they know his child sex scandal will blow up in their face. Nominating pedophiles is a bad look even for Trump.

Well, certainly in normal times it would, but we are living in probably the most abnormal time in US History. 

Why didn't all of Trump's crimes blow up in their faces, but a child sex scandal? 

I mean, what kind of consequences would Trump and his party face if Gaetz was the US Attorney General even though they will now have essentially zero checks on their power at the federal level?

I am sure that the worst is still yet to come, but people like you and me have been anticipating Trump's 2nd presidency to be the most corrupt presidential administration the country has ever had and that the fabric of our society will break down to levels that we can't even begin to imagine.

You don't know what kind of skeletons Gaetz has in his closet. Could be some real ugly stuff.

But I am surprised they withdrew him, shameless as they are. No doubt his replacement will be as bad or worse.

Don't forget that they are selling and trading all these nominations. They will go to the highest bidders and biggest asslickers.

The 'child sex scandal' was with a 17 year old 'victim' that lied in his age on the contacts website and now is in pornhub and has an Onlyfans😂

Btw, Gaetz doesn't seem such a psycho as people put them out to be. He used to do Molly with the hookers, seems to be just an incredibly cocky, entitled rich-from-parents kid.

Yeah, God only knows what other perverted stuff or crimes he committed.

That's what I mean. They no longer have to, which is good for all of them, including Trump.

They're better off installing someone who is just as much of a sycophant but without the obvious baggage and bad press. There's no shortage of these kind of people.

I'm not saying it couldn't happen, especially if things continue to deteriorate and people become more active in their resistance. But people like you and I would be extremely low priority. We are nobodies.

It's basically a zero % chance. Americans wouldn't allow it. There would be a massive rebellion long before it ever came to people like you being targeted.

Just think of the millions that rank much higher than you in the anti-Trump camp. They would be targeted first and that process would trigger massive revolt, even among the right.

I’m disappointed. Gaetz had issues sure, but he had some positives. He didn’t take big money campaign contributions, he was against censorship of criticism of Israel, and he was in favor of pardoning Snowden. I would prefer he influence trump then some neocon.

No but if he isn’t taking campaign contributions he may less likely to work on behalf of lobbyists.

He had some legitimate populist positions. He called for US withdrawal from Iraq for example.

Even if he’s a fake populist at least that can provide an avenue to put some pressure on him if his fans expect that.

Keep in mind whatever major bad aspects he has will probably be present in whoever gets chosen regardless.
