Why i dont identify with how leo understands israelies

1 post in this topic

I see a lot of posts here with an anti-Israel perspective, but I feel like they don’t represent my views or the views of many people. This topic is full of lies and is so complex that almost every video or person talking about it fails to represent what people here actually think. Many of the problems you care about are things we don’t care about, to be honest. Here, I’ll explain how I view this conflict and how I make my political decisions.

My Philosophy on Morality and Conflict

First of all, I care about all humans equally—but I care about myself more. That makes me a “devil,” like anyone else. If I didn’t prioritize myself over others, I wouldn’t survive. For example, I could give up my organs to save others, but I don’t because I value my life. You could try to convince me not to be a "devil," but you won’t convince everyone else in the world. Thinking that one side in this conflict should stop being “devils” while the other continues is unrealistic. Both Israelis and Palestinians act in their own interests, just like any country—whether it’s the states in the U.S. or European states. Here we don’t have it settled down.

Second, I prefer the least "devil-like" option. Since I know I’m flawed, I aim to minimize harm where possible. Ideally, I’d cause no harm at all, but in real life, that’s not always feasible. If I can help others without significant cost to myself, I’ll do it. However, if it comes down to a win-lose situation, I will choose to be on the winning side.

The Conflict and Possible Solutions

Ideally, we’d find a way to live together, either as one state or two states, in a way that protects Jewish interests while also addressing Palestinian interests. However, I don’t see a practical one-state solution that would make both sides happy. This leaves the two-state solution.

Here’s where the issue lies: when Palestinians had their own territory in Gaza, they used it primarily for attacks against Israel. If they truly wanted us to give them the West Bank too, they could have chosen a peaceful approach to build trust. Even if Israel has been a “devil” to them, they could have shown restraint and worked to change public opinion. Instead, they’ve continued hostility, which makes trust impossible. As a result, I’d rather be a “devil” and protect myself than be “nice” and end up in a destroyed country.

The West Bank is a different situation. Israel controls it more effectively, partly because of settlements. When we acted “nicely” and left Gaza, the outcome was disastrous. In the West Bank, settlements—despite being morally contentious—have resulted in better security. Based on this, I prefer the “devil” option of maintaining settlements because it works better for Israeli safety.

Counterarguments

Gaza and the Blockade: Some argue that we turned Gaza into a concentration camp, but that’s not accurate from my perspective. Initially, we didn’t impose a blockade; it came later due to security concerns because of wars. While our methods might be flawed, they weren’t designed to abuse Gazans but to protect Israelis. Settlements in the West Bank, too, are primarily for security reasons—not religious ones, though some people might see them that way. Usually people think to settle for religious reason is because it give them safety and this is a way to justify it then the opposite from my experience.

Israel’s Justification: Whether Israel’s existence is justified or not isn’t something I’ll debate. You could argue that I should leave, but you won’t convince the entire population. I was born here; we have a functioning country, and we’re rooted here. Whether it was right or wrong to create Israel decades ago doesn’t change the reality of our lives now. It is wayyy to late to decide on this issue and wont change anything. It is better to try to solve the problem rather having those debates.

My Conclusion

At this point, the only options are to build settlements to maintain security or kick Palestinians out. Settlements might not be the ideal solution, but I see them as the less harmful choice.

I believe the current war is justified. I don’t see another way. Palestinians suffer greatly, but I prioritize my own side because this is a win-lose situation. I’d like to see less harm to Palestinians, but I’m not an expert on warfare. If our army commits war crimes, it’s not ideal, but I’d still choose having an army over not having one even if it commites war crimes.

Who should someone support in this conflict? It depends on your values:

If you think Jews don’t need a country to protect themselves, then support the Palestinians and give Israelis alternatives to leave (though most won’t leave without good options).

If you believe Jews need a country for their safety and that Palestinians can adapt or leave safely, then support Israel.

If you believe a peaceful resolution is possible, I don’t know what to tell you—it’s beyond my understanding. But for now, as long as it’s a win-lose situation, one side has to dominate. Given the current balance of power, I think Israel is the better option because it’s more stable and has the means to cause less harm overall, even if it’s still causing harm.

Israelis are sure that if they don’t have this place there gonna be another holocaust and it is their home, most of them didn’t migrate.

It is not like south africa, the population there was very similar to the countries they came from, they didn’t had special concern like here , they didn’t had a similar common ground like jews have,   there were minority in the land and not half of the people. They could migrate easily and they did not had much reasons to be scared of the black population as much as we are scared of palestinians and arabs.

They do not think they gonna die if they wont control south africa. I think jews will commit any crime possible if you take this security from them and I don’t see how it is possible to take it. Sanctions wont help a bit and wars too.

The only positive I had to say is that the reason for this behavior is security and believing that this is our home. Jews don’t have any racism complex or revenge complex and I do think jews wants the best for the palestinians but we live in win lose reality
