Where do you draw the line between personal fulfillment and satisfying others?

Having done a couple of commissions as an artist, I've experienced it being completely horrible to work on a project that I have no passion for which has resulted in me only accepting commissions that fall into the curfew of my passions and be way more strict. It has led to me to question to what degree my life purpose is just me making art for my own sake.

How do you balance personal fulfillment and satisfying others in your life purpose? Are there situations where you draw the line when a customer wants something that you can but won't deliver?

None of this will matter if you live in a country run by a fascist like in America, Russia, Hungary, China, North Korea, or the Iran because the dictators in those countries will take away your personal fulfillment if you're not in the top 1%.

You should keep your delusions to the politics forum echo chamber.

@Basmanit's simple, can you afford to decline work? How many people in normal jobs can pick and choose which tasks to do and which to leave.

Maybe in the beginning, get as much work as feasible, keeping your life-work balance, so that in a few years you can afford to turn down work or maybe hire/subcontract someone else for those tasks...
