Is Abortion Murder?

83 posts in this topic

Abortion does "kill" a gestating life objectively. The word "murder" however is quiet strong. I don't think everyone will feel that aborting/killing a fetus is equivalent to killing an adult human. Though "murder" tends to refer to a civil context. Killing combatants during war is not considered murder colloquially for example. We don't consider killing someone in self-defense murder either unless we think it was unjustified.

"Murder" implies that the act was unjustified, malicious or callous which is probably why pro-lifers like to call abortion murder. They want to frame it as unjustified and employ charged language to that end.

I can agree that abortion is form of killing but I think calling it murder is a gross exaggeration. If you consider abortion murder, what about eating meat? A mature pig is more of a life than a tiny fetus. Or what about microbes? Don't they have equal right to protection as living organisms? Pro-lifers tend to be selective with their definitions and examples to argue for an inherently ideological/emotional position.

Such an incredibly good and important comment you made.

The end of separation is the end of desire. It’s life, it’s death, it’s unity; it is the absolute. In this profound realization, we find perfection eternal, a state of everlasting harmony.

It is not considered murder by society, but this is a subjective issue, and everyone has their own perspective on morality and ethics.

No, it is not, if the woman doesnt want to give birth to a baby.

There are so many dangerous ways to do abortion at home. With some poisonous food like nutmeg, with alcohool, with some medicines, with some fasting techniques....

By making abortion illegal ur just inciting women to do dangerous things, or giving birth to a NOT wanted baby, and maybe also in terrible economic situations.

That's precisely why i'm not conservative.

I love meat and I have no problem killing an animal to eat it, i've already done it.
But I can't come after that and act like a tender idealist explaining that a fetus is a living being that must be particularly protected lol.

It would in fine be inconsistent, i chose my paradigm.

Killing bacteria is not considered murder because bacteria are not sentient beings. They don’t have awareness or the ability to feel pain. Similarly, a group of cells in early pregnancy is not a person with consciousness or the capacity to experience life and therefore terminating a pregnancy at this stage is not the same as taking a life.

Exactly. A fetus is living but not sentient. It is not a person. It has the potential to be a human being, but only that - potential. Therefore, abortion is not murder.

You are assuming there isn't a being inside the fetus so you declare it as not sentient.  From a spiritual sense, primarily the east, even a rock is sentient.

Abortion should be a choice but there should be a window of  time for that and if its past it, the mother/parents should give up their child for adoption.

Many people who oppose abortion believe in God, and these religious fanatics have been taught not to question God but simply to follow orders without any logic behind them. Religious texts will serve as tools of control, making followers unquestioning slaves unable to think more openly.

People can get abortions in other states that have legalized it.  If not then Mexico and Canada will support.

Another idea is for people to be responsible.

Money in politics and endless wars are FAR more important than abortion and trans rights. The whole nation isnt focusing on more important things and the politicians are fooling people into less important issues @Spiritual Warfare @Jacob Morres

If you make a tier list, if we are generous we can give abortion 12?
1. Money in poltics
2. Wars
3. Money and banking system
4. Healthcare
5. Education
6. Cleaner water
7. Cleaner environment
8. Disaster recovery and real relief
9. Drug problems in both legal and illegal drugs
10.  Support for single mothers
11. Homelessness
12. Abortion?

If I spent about and hour thinking there are probably others that go ahead of abortion

preventing a life from being lived and halting a life in progress are not the same thing, but they aren't entirely different things either.

I agree that there are many critical issues, but I believe reproductive rights are fundamental to a person’s freedom and autonomy. Abortion isn’t just about choice, it’s a matter of health, human rights, and equality. These rights shouldn’t be overlooked or downplayed as they directly impact people’s lives and their ability to make decisions about their own bodies.

There will certainly be disadvantages in everything, but in the end, it is the woman’s choice that should be the most important and respected, whether she chooses an abortion or not.

When it comes to rape, incest etc. it's another question.

I want to provide the counter argument for this kind of reasoning. If the primary argument against abortion is that it is murder, then logically rape and incest should not be exceptions. In that case it would still be murder.

Therefore, the pro life argument when coupled with these exceptions reveals the deeper truth. That is that there is a belief that women are sluts and they need to be controlled. Consent has nothing to do with abortion being murder.

This is why the pro choice argument becomes that you are trying to control women and their sexual lives. You don't actually care if abortion is killing babies because killing babies is fine in the case of rape and incest.

Would you do abortion out of love?

Or would you do abortion only out of fear? Fear of responsibility for example.

Maybe that's one way to come to the answer. Because if you can't do something out of love, then God is not supporting you in that action.
