Successful people on social media make me insecure

32 posts in this topic

When I see successful people on social media with great talent and a secure job, I begin to feel insecure because in comparison to them I'm just an average person with no particular talent or skill or great job. I just do odd jobs to get by.

I become insanely insecure of myself when I see how they brag about making money or traveling or how their lives are perfect and happy. It makes me feel like a loser in life.

How do I deal with this feeling? Being on social media, comparisons with your colleague 's and friend's life is obvious. How to cope with if others are doing better than you?

I'm not necessarily jealous but slightly envious of their lifestyle and a bit insecure.

When You have something exposed to you that You think is a "Good" thing or Empowering isn't that what we need at times, examples of How Life can be? But with highly Egoic minds it makes them feel insecure or bad about themselves, but they make it all about themselves, not about the possibilities that are available to most everyone.

So its all perspective, are you looking at it from the Ego, or from the perspective of this is something I want to get into and this person is living the way I want to live as well and research it more to find out how You can do it too..

You need to get out of Your Ego, limited self identity and concern just about Self, and expand Your Awareness to see Life all around You and that You are a part of this Life process and are limitless in nature..

This is very difficult to do. Society teaches us to be stuck in who we are. Identification with self is hard to completely dissolve. It triggers insanity.

If society taught You something, then You can unlearn it! And it doesn't have to be complete, just ease off a bit on Your obsession with Self, pay more attention to things outside of Yourself and appreciate it more..

Right now You have heavy Karma/Conditioning to overcome just to get to a point of basic Peace (if Your not at Peace within, then Your living below Human potential), that is where the work is, never mind what others are doing in their lives and You feeling insecure, this just complicates Your life and is a big distraction..

In the End its up to You, what You do with it and what You think is Possible/Impossible is Your choice, choose whatever it is, if You can deal with the consequences joyfully what does it matter, if not then work has to be done!

What is true is that everyone struggles.  One just has to keep going.

Less social media is a good start. Also I think you should learn to see the inauthenticity in those posts because most of them really are inauthentic, especially those where something seems to be 'perfect'. It's always a facade because nothing is perfect in that traditional sense of perfect.

Always remember. You only see the sunny side of most peoples live on social media.

Cherry picked snapshots. Their lives are very probably not just perfect and happy.

You have never seen the their dark side.

They don't make you feel insecure, they bring up the insecurities you already have within yourself. Learn to understand what feelings imply and mean and always turn it back around on yourself. This has nothing to do with those people, it's all about how you see yourself in relation to the world around you. If you were truly healthy in mind and soul, you would feel a sense of joy and love for those people as they emit a sense of happiness and well-being within your perception of them.

It is irrelevant as to whether they are truly enjoying life or not and are in a good place. THAT'S IRRELEVANT to what I'm trying to point to here. We will never know what people are really going through within. It's the perception of them that counts and how it relates to how you respond to that. If you're responding with a sense of hopelessness and despair and are feeling insecure within yourself from seeing people within your perception as doing good in life, then that should tell you you have to work on the way you see yourself and the things you are placing your attention on. Focus on the things that make you feel good inside and how you like for your life to go. This will raise your frequency to that of a higher level and the thoughts you entertain will start to align with that frequency and the ones that put you in a state of sadness and despair will not find a home within your consciousness and awareness. You will begin to see a shift in your state of being and now you're on your way to aligning with truth instead of seeing people and the world as a comparison to who you think you are and not what you truly are. Your mind has been hijacked because of the things you have placed your attention on; and where you place your attention is where you place your energy and where you place your energy will determine your state of being.

It's that simple. There's nothing difficult in it and the proof is that the opposite was quite easy for you to do. How much energy did it take for you to feel the way you do now, not much, because it's your state of being. It doesn't take much to act in ways that are aligned with who you identify as. Change your identity and you'll start to act in ways conducive to that with no effort at all.

Know thyself....

I think you need to have a caring discussion with yourself about comparisons and why you choose to compare yourself to other people. Do you believe you have innate and true spiritual value that cannot be given or taken away?

@Buck Edwards Have you taken the life purpose course?

I'd say it's probably not making you insecure but giving you fomo. If you had your perfect life right now you wouldn't care about people driving Lambos in Dubai. If you feel like you're stagnating and not living up to your potential then yeah of course it's gonna make you sad and angry; as it should.

I'd say flesh out what you want your life to be about and probably start some sort of business related to AI if that's anywhere in your field of interest. You don't need to be particularly smart; just dedicated.

Whats the difference between body consciousness and soul consciousness? How do you feel in one versus the other?

@Buck Edwards I feel exactly the same like you..

Being a creator is the solution but the competitive mindset is deep rooted in my mind causing the distress.

Do you sometimes think that society as a collective tends to program us with this sort of competitive mindset?

My mom did this to me not society.

She always compared me to other kids as a child and now I blame her for this mindset of mine.

I'm a victim

Yes this is True. This is the crux of the problem. I don't necessarily envy people who are doing better in their lives but I feel like a sense of deprivation or insecurity or unworthiness myself. As you said fomo and a sense of failure combined with it.

Yea my mom used to do that a lot to me growing up and still does unfortunately. But my friends to a certain degree do too.. They tell me about other people. I feel like I'm different from other people and not built for this competitive mindset.

@Buck Edwards So what does your dream life look like? If you had a billion dollars what would you be doing as your life purpose? And how do we get you there? Venting is one thing but let's plan some concrete action steps and progress will ultimately make you feel better.

Nothing more depressing than stagnation; it's literally the opposite of evolution itself.

I want an extremely high paying job in marketing. If I had a billion dollars then I would open a sanctuary for wild animals in Africa to protect them from extinction. And I would open township style free homes throughout the United States for homeless people so they can live a decent life. That would be my life purpose. But I don't have that kind of money and my social anxiety limits me from a high paying job of my dreams.
