Successful people on social media make me insecure

35 posts in this topic

@Buck Edwards You're lucky marketing is one of the easiest fields to get into. I'd say it's quite hard to land a high paying job in it but that's irrelevant at the moment. How do you feel about business ownership and research? If you have a lot of social anxiety nothing is stopping you from staying in your house and learning about it online and getting clients/running a business without ever meeting them.

What is your experience level in the field and your skillset that would help give you a competitive edge? No reason you can't be in the middle of the wilderness making 15$k/month and running a your marketing operation fully remote a few years from now.

Yea my mom used to do that a lot to me growing up and still does unfortunately. But my friends to a certain degree do too.. They tell me about other people. I feel like I'm different from other people and not built for this competitive mindset.

Same here yaa...

Whats the difference between body consciousness and soul consciousness? How do you feel in one versus the other?

Body consciousness : I see life from the POV of my personality. I am my body, my name, my health, my status, my education, my opinions, my social circle etc. I believe there's a limited amount of time to achieve what I want to achieve. I fear death or falling ill. I see tragedies or serious problems everywhere. I think Trump is a POS.

Soul consciousness : I see myself and others as eternal spiritual beings. Life is just a play, and every person is a divine character...even Trump! Nothing is of value to me except love and the wonder of the present moment. I fear nothing because there's nothing I can lose, not even my life. I don't feel the pressure of time because I know that I have an eternity to experience whatever I want to experience.

My soul consciousness affirmations :

I am eternal and indestructible
I am the greatest love
I am the highest wisdom
I am a pure and peaceful soul
I see the divine in everyone

When I repeat those affirmations, my heart often swells up and I instantly feel lighter.  To remain soul conscious with others, I often try to visualize a point of white light inside their brain. I find it helps me remember their true identity / divinity and in turn it makes me more compassionate and patient. I might be delusional and tricking myself, but whatever,  those techniques work with me.

Nice, but you might want to change the second "body consciousness" to " soul consciousness". I believe that's what you meant to write.

I have a friend who has always a serious case of 'FOMO' and it drove him to do things that were very unhealthy for him.  He was always doing a heck of a lot better than me, but my situation was more like 'PLMO'   Please leave me out!

I practice art and I have a similar experience looking my feed. A lot of very talented artists and amazing art. It makes me feel jealous and insecure but then I look at a non-curated feed (like Deviantart) and most of its garbage, no offense.

Social media promotes the cream of the crop due how engagement shape the digital landscape, so the most amazing, beautiful, sexiest, funniest type shit floats to the top. 80% of the content on social media is not worth looking at.

Popular posters tend to curate what they post based on what gets them engagement which leads to their content to becoming manufactured to a certain degree in order to cater to their audience. Its a feedback loop, meaning its often not 100% authentic. Its literally for show. There are some people who live amazing lives but then again you only see the highlights. They 100% guaranteed have their own issues in between photo shoots. That Instagram model is a glorified prostitute for rich Saudi-Arabian men.

The simple solution is to consume less social media. Its bad for you mental health any way, as much as I hate that word.

Don´t worry everyone lies in social media and always show and cherrypick the best things that happens to them (and occult the 980 rest of bad things)

@Javfly33 Kind of but that's not a good point. There are people making a lot of money doing crazy awesome things with their life. The whole point is not to be discouraged but encouraged by that and bridge the gap so that you can do it yourself.

Those people that make you insecure are probably also insecure in some other way & they don’t show it on social media.

Try as best as you can to be a good person.

Define success in life as being a good and loving person, not having material acquisitions.

Then see what's going to happen.

I would say not to mind much what you think you are seeing. Most of it is just screen. You don’t know the problems of others and what they are really into. I my self have learned this along the way by seeing its reality. To have those lifestyles you see as happy and successful (a big part of it) is just fake under high pressure, problems, debts and even bad karma.

On the other hand, i get that having some low wage jobs can make you feel like that, but it’s more on the mindset and having your possibilities open. Like, do you already know yourself enough as to what you really want, what are your core talents, what career suits you most, what’s your life purpose and last but not least, are you investing? It doesn’t matter what job you do as long as you have your financial education going on, are saving and invest in financial markets aswell as other places. When you have all these possibilities active, your mind open and specially the investing and money knowledge active, the back of your mind will know your possibilities to a good life and whatever you want is on its way. This is me, I have gone through and still am somewhat in a literal hell, yet I still manage to stay strong and positive somehow. Just keep going and shift your focus.

You are conflicted by default. It's not meant to be a rude comment, so change the reading tone 🙂. You said you're not built to be competitive and yet you want a job in marketing. It's just as you said, fomo. You find it hard to let go of something so conflicting because it somehow caters what you've been conditioned to beleive for so long. And at the same time, you're evolving as a human should. Humans are not meant to work their life off, in a job, just to fill the void created in the first place by the person themselves. Materialism is just a bandaid to some self-induced sickness.

BTW, there's so much inherently wrong with USA. It's nice if you can move to somewhere near the equator, Tropical Evergreen biome. Live peacefully for sometime and spend less money. More nature. More of yourself.
