I Think Modern Technology Is Rapidly Aging The Brain.

23 posts in this topic

The reptilian part of the brain is rapidly aging, due to the increase in modern technology and at the pace it's going. Either that, or it is confused. Not sure, but I think it's the cause of the loneliness epidemic, the increase in anxiety, depression and suicidal thoughts. If you study the brain and the reptilian parts, it's not ready for all this technology use because it's still in the stone-age and is evolving pretty slowly pass it's survival mechanisms.

I'm being very serious with this guys; and I'm not saying technology is bad. Infact, it's very helpful in our advancements; but I think the brain is being force-ripe into how it has to process all this rapid advancements in technology and it is affecting the way we view ourselves and the world. I bet you if we were to do a complete study on this, we would find out that this is the case. I haven't checked, but I can also guarantee that there is some already in place.

The internet's definition of the reptilian brain is as follows: "The reptilian brain is the most ancient part of the brain and is responsible for regulating body temperature and other basic functions. It's also involved in how people react to fear, threat, and uncertainty, and how they process information in a variety of contexts".

Most of us are locked into our phones and computers and are using tools like AI to do the processing for us and is causing the brain to function in ways not conducive to how it evolves naturally, especially the reptilian part. It is very flexible, but I think all this technology is causing the fight or flight response mechanism to out do itself and creating a massive flux in our attitudes and the way we think.

Just some food for thought and is only my opinion and what I believe to be the case why so many of us are being disconnected from nature.

I’ve always had issues being outside for too long due to environmental allergies that were out of my control. Ironically, I need modern technology such as man-made medications to go out in nature without breaking out in hives.

Quite ironic how raw, unprocessed honey can help with allergies. "hives". Hmmm

Would be great to have empirical studies on this. But at same time the predicament we have with this is the same with our addiction to combustion engines, we know they are not good to the enviroment and us, but we cant live without it. Same with Slaves in old Greece or Roman, even the ones who could see slavery was not good still keep having slaves since they could not see their society working without.

I think you’re right. Watching videos from the past people seemed to speak and think sharper. I’ve already read teachers commenting that newer generations of kids seem less clever and intelligent.

Something is going on for sure. I'm more concerned with the younger generation 20-30 thinking they're old people. It's rampant. Something in the brain is causing this. They all look at me like I'm not understanding but it is not normal. They are like fish in water and can't see it. I truly believe it's the brain trying to catch up with all this faced-paced technological usage and it's affecting how it processes different parts of the brain. Another thing i also see is how young men are concerned with ED and the use of sexually enhancing drugs. The age is getting younger and younger. People will debate me on this and I'm not saying I know technology is causing this, all I'm saying is there is a very wide gap from how this progressed years ago. Very wide gap.

I think young men get ED because of pornography use.

What concerns me is if we will see rising rates of things like dementia or psychosis as people age.

Men have been watching porn for ages. Not saying it doesn't cause it, but the ages are getting younger. Much younger. I'm talking overall; all the older issues are starting to manifest at an alarming younger age. So much so, that the young thinks it's natural and has always been the case. I use to see men in their 50's and 60' and up worried about impotency now it's starting in the 20's and 30's and not just a few cases.

Its funny because "adulthood" is steadily being delayed more and more with time. You used to be a fully fledged adult at 16. Now your early 20s is just teenager: the sequel.

You are going to need some citation to make your brain claims though. How did you even arrive at those conclusions?

In my opinion, social media is quiet bad for children, if only because how it effects their self-esteem and concentration skills. The loneliness epidemic is in part simply because we are better at registering mental illness today making it appear as if there is an increase comparatively due to a lack of accurate data of the past, but social media does feed into it in my opinion. Loneliness is essentially the feeling that you are missing out and social media is very good at making people feel that way.

Dividing the brain into parts is useful for some things, but not so much in this case imo. Rather, the whole brain is implicated. Also, "rapidly aging" is rather specific. I would simply say increased chronic stress, where rapid aging may be a byproduct. But it's indeed the case that hyper-salient stimuli like social media, TikTok and internet porn; hyper-palatable foods like fast foods, candies and sodas; environmental toxins, noise pollution and toxic foods; and lack of natural stimuli like natural landscapes; it's not what we evolved for, and it comes with certain challenges.

I asked chat gpt about this (ironic) and this is what it has to say on the topic of technology and it's impact on human mental health —

Constant exposure to technology is overwhelming the reptilian brain, leading to increased anxiety, depression, and loneliness.

Technology is overloading the brain: The rapid pace of technological advancement is forcing the brain to process information at a rate it's not accustomed to.

Disconnection from nature: Excessive technology use is leading to a disconnect from nature, which is essential for human well-being.

Impact on mental health: The strain on the brain is contributing to rising rates of mental health issues like anxiety, depression, and suicidal thoughts.

It's important to note that while these concerns are valid, there is no scientific consensus on the extent to which technology is negatively impacting the brain. More research is needed to fully understand the effects of technology on human psychology and behavior.

@Princess Arabia very good post. I really like this post. I think the phrase "rapidly aging" can be replaced by "premature aging," I think that's what you're looking for. Premature aging seems a huge problem these days because of a modern lifestyle imbued by technology. I think you're right. It's an assault on our reptilian brain that is not designed to consume information at this rate. It eats away our mental energy very rapidly. And as we know our mind and Mental energy is deeply connected to our physical health, so it probably produces a lof of free radicals and stress hormones in the body leading to the typical fight or flight response almost all the time like the alarm never shuts down, it's always on and this could trigger premature aging of the body cells. This is visible in rapid premature greying of hair and a constant state of fatigue leading to pressure on the adrenal.. Constant high cortisol level.

By the way we hardly ever touch grass these days. At least I haven't. So many emails and messages to attend to between family commitments that I forgot what grass looks like.

It said all those things? Sounds like my post almost verbatim. I thought you were quoting from my post. I don't even use Chatgpt. I saw a comment in another thread today saying how at his ripe old age of 30, and that's what prompted me to write this post off the top of my head. I looked up the official meaning of reptilian brain so I could quote it, but I never searched any info on this topic like I stated in my post. Didn't even think to ask Chapgpt. I'm just shocked at the amount of young people thinking they're old and aging in their 20's and 30's. The ripe young age at 50 is usually when people who reach that age start talking about aging. 20's c'mon. Just left teenage years and you're talking about aging even if you're 30. It's the technology and the diet and fake food and medications I think. Just a wild guess.

Yea they feel too old inside because they have to consume so much of the world at such a fast pace. Thanks to social media. Bad diet can make people age faster too. But most importantly, even if they don't look old, them feeling old is an indicator that they have to rapidly engage with the world and life in a short span of time due to technology which means stress and over consumption, so they are learning things faster than they mature emotionally or mentally, contributing to the feeling of being "old" inside. Mental processing is surpassing the pace of natural aging. That's when "feeling old" happens. I mean even 12 year Olds talk about sex. So no surprise they must feel old at 21.

Yes. It's all happening inside, like you said. Outside is where it's manifesting. It's the brain that's having to catch up and it's signaling to the body wait hold up, i can't process that fast so now all the hormones are being imbalanced. Diet is most important here to help with the balancing of the hormones and also a healthy mind.

Ask it about the prefrontal cortex and other cortical structures.

They haven’t had access to endless digital video porn until the internet was popular.
