Improving verbal fluidity.

25 posts in this topic

@Leo Gura

I have the possibility of becoming a militant for the french equivalent of democrat party. I also have other projects in parallel.

On of my issue is that my verbal fluidly isn’t that good, i mean the hability to quickly, intuitively generating a good, well constructed even pleasant to heard way of expressing ideas.

It’s something that you are good at on your videos, i know you have participated a lot to toastmasters but do you also have other documentations, practices about that ? I just bought the book the 6 keys of self confidence.

Thanks in advance.

@Schizophonia I think you formulate yourself well even if it’s hard to understand sometimes. But that’s usually if one isn’t into the subjects that you are into and doesn’t know much about them. For me personally though one thing that improved my writing (and speech too as a consequence) was reading (or listening) to texts/audio within the kind of subjects you are gonna talk about. So for example if you’re gonna write an essay then reading texts in essay form would help. Maybe this is too obvious hehe

Do you consider this formulated well.

@SchizophoniaI'm not criticizing. I know you're French, so it can be challenging for you to write English. I'm merely pointing something out to Sugarcoat, but not as a criticism. Maybe being transparent is the way to go here so he can get the help he needs to do the task he wishes.

I was thinking of his responses in general, and also took in consideration English isn’t his first language. I noticed the typos yes.
I see room for improvement ofc, that’s why I gave him a tip.

I understand. It's just that within the context of his post, I thought it was appropriate to point out to you that he really need the tool he's asking for to help with his articulations and is not so much about being hard to understand. We all make mistakes and typos. It's that his thread is about that. His thread weren't just about typos.

Hey! First of all, big congratulations! :D

Write a lot! Make your writing and ideas as clear as possible—often, people with jumbled thoughts will have jumbled expressions. You need to have a very clear train of thought, and from there, it’s just pure practice. I think Leo mentioned in one of his videos that he refused to make any cuts because he wanted to practice speaking fluently. Do the same—record on your phone mic or camera, or buy an actual mic or camera; it doesn’t really matter. Just speak, replay, speak, replay, speak, replay. You’ll see how your brain will instantly cringe at your own voice and way of expression, and it will immediately start thinking of ways to correct and clear things up naturally.

Another method is mirroring—find someone whose speaking style you admire (it could be Leo) and mirror their mannerisms, pauses, word choices, etc. Don’t worry about copying; it’s impossible to copy someone 1:1. You’ll always add a personal touch since it’s *you* speaking, not someone else.

As with any problem, bringing more awareness always helps solve it. Direct recording, deliberate practice, being on camera, and aspiring to some ideal will help you grow in no time. And obviously, if you’re not too shy, you can share some of your speeches here too for us to help you and evaluate them. Teehee! Good Luck, future militant! ^_^💛✨

Okay ill give you practice.

Use words bombastic, plastic, fantastic to tell me a short story of how you cant be fluid with words.

After you finished see how long it took you, then look to beat that time.

You must calculate fast in real time for what you want or be really well prepared.

I believe to speak more articulated fluently and with substance is about practicing certain patterns of organizing thought and making connections between things in some very specific ways. You can see that with modern politicians, they are extremely consistent in the patterns they use to speak, and they don't deviate from them much.

On the other hand, Leo Gura's style of speaking is more explorative in nature.  Other styles of speaking, such as talking casually or with a friend, is primarily about the mental inner frame you are operating from.

That already will give an instantaneous boost to be able to tap into those mental frames, from that perspective, it doesn't look very different from someone doing Game/Dating, world-class sales people selling to somebody a product, pitching a product in an online webinar, etc.

But obviously, it will only express what you are already capable of expressing but is at the subconscious level waiting to be triggered.

There are certain models they use, such as repeating exactly what people want to hear by studying them, kinda like creating marketing copywriting material.

I believe there is that CONSCIOUS ASPECT that I just described. And there is the subconscious, you actually need exposure to that kind of speech to remember bits and pieces and doing so with THE INTENT OF IMPROVING, as opposed to simply processing like we usually do and not paying attention to the subtle details they deploy, and obviously following principles of MASTERY DEVELOPMENT and STRATEGIC THINKING, how it would usually be for any other skill.

That's my take based on my reflections of learning and improving my spoken English, and currently with acquiring some French

(😂 Mais, je ne sais pas pourquoi je le fais, c'est simplement un challenge pour moi maintenant)

(Recently, I basically just switched the ASMR I listen in English to French, and learned the basics consciously, and unconsciously I just began picking up the language)

But what took me from beginner level to intermediary, and finally, what will take me to advanced... They aren't quite the same techniques, although there is an overlap and stacking of previous techniques with newer ones.

The law of diminishing returns is a bitch, there is only so much that subconscious language acquisition can do.Some techniques that might be useful:

  • Recording with Shadowing (Repeating alongside a speaker of your choice)
  • Recording with a script (And making it sound natural)
  • Recording off-script
  • Pay attention to: Prosody
  • Use a synonym dictionary (Don't ever blindly use words you don't know the meaning, but use it to remember them)
  • Use ANKI (To memorize new words, expressions, or whatever other tidbits you want)
  • STORY TELLING TACTICS: Google "pip decks storyteller tactics"

Thanks, still as sweet eheh.

I don't particularly have an issue of syntax strictly speaking, i actually have an academic level ; The problem is that i'm too confused and monotonous when I speak.

Do you read books these days ?

I can make spelling mistakes but otherwise it's just that I use French style formulas, sometimes even voluntarily because English is just too poor to express myself well.

Thank you, what you wrote is very relevant.

Indeed i love the style of Leo, it's a strong mirror.

I will probably share audio of myself yes, i actually already did it once to tease someone on its journal lol.

Okay I see. When I was in high school I went to this “rethoric” class where we held a bunch of speeches so we practiced that which is of your concern. Also do you mean when you speak in English or French or both?
