Need Help With Aging

45 posts in this topic

Hello. I went to my dermatology appointment today, and they put me on minoxidil medication. The dermatologist confirmed my suspicions that my hair is receding. I still have a full head of hair, but it is receding. I am 27 years old male and have never really taken medications long-term. I have been concerned about taking medications because of the fear it might cause other problems for me. I also have this belief that taking medications means I am weak because I want to be able to heal and overcome naturally without putting chemicals in my body. I know it sounds lame, but this has made me a bit tearful because of my aging. I am losing my hair and my eye sight because I now have 20/25 vision when I used to have 20/10 vision when I was a late adolescent. It sucks. I just wanted some support on whether I should take the minoxidil or if I should just accept the hair loss. It has been hard aging because it feels like I am losing the good parts of myself. It feels like I am losing my edge. It feels like my vision won't ever be as sharp as it used to be. My hair won't be as full as it used to be. I am a person who has always been on top of the world and had good health. Aging out of youth is depressing.

Accept it man, that's how you overcome the fear. Fear is born from attachment.

I think it's best to switch to a more pragmatic view as early in life as possible, with the goal of such pragmatism being a meaningful purpose of your choice, like upliftment of society or spiritual development.

If hair is not essential to your purpose, let it go if it leaves you. Otherwise, look for solutions or a work around. Same with your vision.

The sooner you switch to a purpose-exclusive life, the more you detach.

It sounds kind of bleek, but trust me, nothing feels more fulfilling.

I suggest you read Yoga Vashihstha, it's primarily about detachment, and the first few chapters cover why one should not be emotionally attached to one's physical features.

My God is Bald 😄.

I have thought about working to treat my thinking and receding hairline. But, I’ve decided to embrace my bodies naturally biological rhythm and aging process. It does bother me.

It’s up to you what you wanna do. I think those chemicals likely come with side effects. Definitely worth weighing pro and cons.

OMG. This is INSANE. Same I met a guy the other day saying he was old at 30. This is ridiculous. At 27 someone is talking about aging. No words. Now you're taking something to even speed up the process. I just can't with you Gen z people. What have they done to you people.

@r0ckyreed You can improve your vision with eye exercises. Deepak teaches them in one of his books and there is Qigong for eye sight. We aren’t taught how to exercise the eyes and they can get weaker. My opinion is they can be improved and maintained through daily deliberate practice.

This is advice you give to somebody whose actually aging. Not some young 27yr old whose been brainwashed.

I was actually just walking through the mall with this heavy feeling that I am old and unattractive at 29. A really cute girl I think was trying to get my attention but I missed out saying she looked too young. Which, I don’t know.

I looked in the mirror and broke free of this spell. How we relate to aging both affects our aging and of course how we act and limit/ grow ourselves as a result of this relationship to aging.

Aging has nothing to do with a socially constructed number of years around a sun. Aging has to do with change and decline. You can be 27 and have cancer and that is aging. Don’t be naive. If you lose your hair your vision, you wouldn’t be so dismissive. I probably made a mistake in making this post, but I’m here for support not for criticism.

Have you ever tried any prescription medications for hair loss?

This is not a healthy attitude to have. Its not about being weak, its about what else is available to not impact the body negatively and what the body knows what to do with without harming it unnecessarily - when you go the natural way, that is. I'm a naturalist, but if there ever comes a time where, in order to save my life, or something similarly detrimental happens where I need to take some form of synthetic medication, damn right i will. Accidents happen and sometimes it's needed. But receding hair.... and not yet visible. Do you realize that many men look quite handsome with their receding hair line. Some look worse after the toupee or fake hair implants.

I wasn't trying to criticize. Sorry if I came across that way. Show me one sentence in my comment that implied a criticism. Please know the difference. There were no judgements or criticisms in my reply.

That said, babies have cancer and so do toddlers, are they aging. I'm not being dismissive. I do wear reading glasses but only to read. I don't consider that aging as lots of young people can't even see without glasses at all. I'm sorry, maybe I should just leave you youngsters alone and allow you to age on your own terms.

I honestly think something is happening to cause this. Rockyreed thought I was being dismissive but i was literally in shock to hear him say 27 and aging in the same sentence. I understand his definition of aging, but, c'mon we don't use the term scientifically in normal conversation so that doesn't matter. I know he really considers himself literally aging as in getting old. I've heard you say it before, and like I said a 30yr old told me he was old. I might be coming off a certain way, but this is quite literally shocking to me and maybe it's something i'm not quite realizing here. These aren't the only cases because I've seen it elsewhere and late 20's seem to be the new old.

No there's no mistake and I need to understand how different people see aging. I'm terribly sorry if my comment seemed like a criticism to you and if it came off as being insensitive. I was actually, literally in shock with my mouth wide open. I will leave this thread alone because I cannot relate to 20's - 30's yr olds considering themselves aging or old and will probably sound offensive to some when that isn't my intention, its a matter of being in shock.

tbf, you ARE at the "quarter life crisis" age.  30 is a big number to a 20 something person.  These are things you start to think about but add 10 years and when you're 37 -- you will laugh at your 27 year old self for even thinking these things lol.

You're not becoming weak because you're visibly aging, you're gaining patina.  It's a privilege to show you're aging.  Much like a paradox, the more you fight aging, the older you will look.  Them the breaks, kid.

TBH, I'd be more worried about my dick not working the same due to those hairloss meds than the actual hairloss itself.

You're young too, it's obvious, because it's a generation thing and I see that now. Every 20-30 yr old would agree that that's old as i', see in this thread to the point that it's being called a quarter year crises. I'm the only one seeing this as a mental condition and that something external has caused this crises. None of you will see it because it's a part of your generation. I'm coming off as insensitive when I'm literally in shock. Something has changed and I'm seeing that now. Not sure what it is but I'm sure I'll see it somewhere in some article or another. I will Google. You think I'm kidding. This is quite abnormal, but that's relativistic.

@Princess Arabia 30 is a time when you are still young, but it’s getting clear you’re not getting any younger. There is signs of aging. Which, understandably brings feelings of fear and loss.
