Following Your Bliss Contradicts with Zone of Genius

What I gathered from Following your Bliss, is doing something you want intrinsically/ spiritually/ subconsciously  

Whereas Zone of Genius is something you are scared to grow into.

 

It seems like its almost impossible to see the distinction between following your Bliss vs Zone of Competence.

@EdgeGod900 The love tells you to make the jump towards what scares you. The trigger is love. 

Genius do what they love, it ain't work, it's a delight. A joy that challenges to go beyond yourself

It's at the core of the path. You ain't gonna improve if you don't push yourself. Why would you push yourself? It's uncomfortable. Unless you love what you do. Loving implies improving and going through the challenge.

I don't know for me is quite obvious. I love Martial Arts yet every class is so challenging and demanding. I may get home with bruises and pain, yet I love it so much I can't wait to go next day. The same with learning languages, it's real tough yet in its difficulty lies its beauty.

If it were easy it would mean nothing

That's the attitude. Keep your mind on it and eventually you'll get it. Why? Because you love understanding this matter and therefore that keeps your faith alive to go through the ordeal of having the insight. When you actually get it, the joy you'll get will be priceless

No. ZoG is what you're well-suited for in terms of your natural strengths and personality.

According to the ZoG definition in the book “the big leap” it’s not defined as that at all. It’s defined at what makes you super passionate and when you’re doing it, it doesn’t feel like work, unique talents and abilities. It’s not always too hard to get on the path towards your Zog. Just ask yourself what part of any tasks you do is fun and doesn’t feel like work. If you can’t provide an answer you need to try more things or work on resolving inner issues to gain more clarity. When I was like 16-21 I had no idea what my ZoG was cause all I did was play video games and sit on message boards discussing them. I would make graphics arts and loved it but would deny myself this talent. I realized as I’ve grown I love to make art and tell stories. I’m now into videos.

I think you're confusion may come from the jump between zone of competence to zone of genius and that may be scary, to make the leap. Abiding in one zone or the other is where the juice is. So don't confuse the mechanics of the leap with the actual zone.

Zone of genius in a nutshell is where you happen to get in a flow state by acting through your medium , while also being aligned with your top values, strengths and preferred impact .

For example (me): 

Top 3 values : personal development, understanding, spontaneity 

Top 3 strengths : playfulness, ingenuity, genuineness 

Prefered medium: speaking 

Most meaningful impact: helping men improve their self esteem, self understanding and social skills 

Zone of genius: Coaching social dynamics IRL

Sorry what is 'Follow your bliss' and 'Zone of genius'? Are those books?

@Spiritedness those are concepts from Leo's life purpose course. But yeah, they are based on books.

@EdgeGod900 The “follow your bliss” people have large red and blue shadows. In life you have to do a lot of miserable shit that will make you stronger and more disciplined. Forget the hippe slogans for now and drill down on your strengths and weaknesses, so you can set yourself up. Then you can choose to bask in the sun and meditate without any distractions.

Yep. I confused 2 tings actually.

1st, I meant to say Zone of Excellence, not Zone of Competeance(*durr...ik... I was dropped as a child*).

2nd, the thing that you pointed out about the fear being the jump from excellence to genius.

So I guess my question should have been: given the activity that I love to do, how do I know if its a ZoE or ZoG? This was answered Leo's comment.

Overall, im starting to get a better clarity, because the career I wanna have aligns with my personality and my top 2,3,4 & 5 strengths!!! BUT NOT MY FUCKING top 1. 

Funny that theres another career that strongly aligns with my top 1 str, but not my top 2-5. I enjoy the process of mastering this career that its scary to do since I know it will do fuck all to align with my top 2-5 str.

Im at the stage rn where I'm trying to contemplatr for a way to make the career, that already aligns with my personality and top 2-5 str, align with my top 1 str.
