Coffee: I want the benefits but not the addiction

104 posts in this topic

Coffee is like women.

Nietzsche said it best: "Ah, women. They make the highs higher and the lows more frequent."

Still, I couldn’t live without my coffee...

“Did you ever say Yes to a single joy? O my friends, then you said Yes to all woe as well. All things are chained and entwined together, all things are in love; if ever you wanted one moment twice, if ever you said: ‘You please me, happiness! Abide, moment!’ then you wanted everything to return!” - Friedrich Nietzsche

«Coffee can reduce your risk of cancer up to 20 percent, your risk of type 2 diabetes by 30 percent, and your risk of Parkinson's disease by 30 percent. If coffee is so healthy

why do you start shitting all the time, ramble on about different topics, and then crash afterwards, and then you have to drink more, get dehydrated, go and relieve more runny poop, and then sleep way worse.

I bet if you tracked your sleep, coffee would destroy it easy. Laughing at you for falling into the trap of drinking it.

@Nilsi exactly. it makes us unstable. I feel you man. I am actually addicted to yerba mate / matcha myself. I get very low on days I don't drink it. Such as today. And now that I think about it, is tempted to go get a delicious matcha blended with organic butter, cinnamon and honey

Coffee doesn’t work like this for most people who are used to drinking it.

You sound angry btw. Coffee must have caused you a lot of suffering…

1. 0 cup a day

2. Not addicted obviously

3. If you want the befinits of coffee, drink milk/milkshake. Because that's where the real benifit lies.

Coffee itself just fucks with the system and damages it bit by bit. Drink Ash Gourd essence, this is what you call real benifit. It puts you in a different state altogether.

Coffee makes me robotic and unhappy, nicotine is a better stimulant.

Nicotine is pure nausea for me. Coffee for the win.

Because you smoke too quickly and/or too strong cigarettes while having no tolerance.

^ great post!

There is so much more that could be said about coffee.

You'll know almost immediately if it is bad for you by experiencing symptoms of rapid heart rate or jitteriness. Its fine for most people and long term benefits are well documented. Whether you get addicted to it to a point that you can't switch on your work laptop nor get yourself to the gym without being caffeinated is a completely different story.

Unfortunately some people don't tolerate it well. It usually comes down to genetic mutation on certain hepatic enzymes or there is something else going on. People may have all sorts of inborn snips on key metabolic enzymes making them unable to digest certain food ingredients or particular amino acids such as phenylketonuria or different snips of P450 enzyme family. But that doesn't mean all those foods are automatically bad for everyone else.

Knowing the nuances is important before bulk-rejecting entire foods or even food categories , e.g "carbs are bad because I get bloated from bread" or " coffee is bad because it gives me diarrhoea".

Prospective evidence shows coffee improves the progression of depression and reduces the odds of suicide in people with mild to moderate depression. Would you take it away from them saying "coffee is bad for you"? ... I'd rather not. Sure, it doesn't solve the underlining issue of their depression but as long as it helps...

Some people just don’t get addicted to it no matter how much they drink it. Me for example, and maybe you’re one of them. So you can just try it out and see for yourself

Some people are drinking fake cream and processed sugar, not just coffee. Sometimes it's the mixed in additives that's the problem.

Where i live it's not uncommon for men to consume more than 5 espressos every day for decades, often in combination with cigarettes.

Coffee makes me anxious or belligerent, same for a close friend.

It increases dopamine a little but you might as well take a real antidepressant.
