Numbers had to be invented; they rely on human interpretation and meaning-making for them to be generated, as with any form of language--they're not "features" inherent to the universe that are waiting to somehow be uncovered, lying dormant and "hidden" from our eyes. You don't find a "two" hiding under a rock. In fact, without interpretation, not even a "rock" is out there to be perceived, just meaningless sensory input.

And yet without humans certain inventions wouldn't have taken place or come to exist. Humans "do" language; without this activity, it wouldn't be known, take form, or be "discovered". 

The absolute is the canvas and humans make paintings on it. Feeling poetic.
