Revisiting Life Purpose Course After 7 Years to Refine My Vision

8 posts in this topic

I discovered that the Life Purpose Course works just as well to refine an existing purpose as it did to help me discover my purpose initially.

I’ve been feeling less motivated recently and like I was hitting diminishing returns in life, so I decided to revisit the course.  I was 21 when I first took it, and am 28 now, so I thought some things may have changed.

I started by going through all the passes of the values assessment again and retaking the strengths assessment.  My results were fundamentally the same, but with some important differences.  I then redid some of the exercises and visualizations, choosing the ones that I thought would yield different results after several more years of life experience.

At first, I was considering if I needed to switch to a completely different path in life, but now I see that my existing purpose is still in line with my core motivations, it just needs to take on a different form.

This allowed me to rewrite my life purpose and me sheet using more clear language, which I think will help me get back on track.

Another benefit to this is that it’s a good way to really see your progress.  Going over my old notes from the course, I could see problems that I’ve overcome, and how my thinking has improved.  For the exercises I redid, I was able to generate much higher quality answers than I could back then.

@bmcnicho Hey, that is good to hear.

This inspires and remind me to look over my stuff and redo the assessments as well.

@Ramanujan Take the Life Purpose and your vision as the driving force, and the why for what you do everyday. Do this even if your survival isn’t doing exactly what you want right now. Focus on growing yourself as a person, and making small progress each day toward building your foundation. Learn to enjoy the small things in life and don’t stress yourself out too much by trying to do everything at once. Develop self compassion, patience and focus on growing yourself into a more mature, stable and generally capable person. Invest each day into developing your skills. Even if you can work on your purpose 30 minutes to an hour a day that can motivate you. Accept where you are and the challenges you are facing. Be patient, and persistent.

Develop a loving heart, a clear mind, and be flexible. Write out a 5 year plan and update it and refer to it often as things change and adjust.

I just logged onto the forums for the first time in a while to make a post about the Life Purpose course. I bought the course probably 2-3 years ago, but I’ve only been committed to it once I hired a life coach. It’s taken me 1-2 months of 20 minutes each morning to finally complete the entire values pass section. It’s great to see that you’re motivated to come back after several years to work through the course again.

Just the values pass portion alone has done wonders to clarify my life.

why you don't have a degree? I guess you have been enabled by your caregivers, you have to get a job and get your own life
