Peo

I deleted all Social media on my phone.

30 posts in this topic

So i have finally been able to delete all social media at age 22. These include: Tik tok, snapchat, X/Twitter, instagram, reddit and facebook. I feel so free, no more bullishit cringe on my phone anymore. Social media is not good for your brain and just a distraction. I do use youtube, but i use it to watch educational channel like Leo, RealLifeLore and The Organic Chemistry Tutor. Also youtube has better music then Spotify. Youtube is the only good social media in this world if you use premium youtube.

No social meida = freedom.

What do you think of social media? Is it bad or good?

Persoanlly i see no benefits with social media unless you going to use it to earn money.

I often see motivational quotes on social media and inspiring stories of people.. So I don't think social media is that bad.

And advanced forms of social media also have filters and sorting options to tailor your feed only to the content you want in your feed so that's a great way of gathering related information. So that's a great benefit.

For example if I want information on the human spine structure, the whole social media feed will be filled with images and videos of spine structures.

You don't need to delete social media, you simply have to stop random browsing and tailor your browsing and feed to suit your needs as per the information you want.

You just have to choose wisely Who you listen/Watch. There is 99% shit on social media but 1% gold, this 1% gold can change you and make your Life better...

Does not count. it is at least better quality then reddit. I have deleted all low quality social media. This forum and youtube i consider high quality social media.

Very good, I did the same thing. I used to have an Instagram account until I noticed myself compulsively using it.

Social media is the new nicotine.

If social media was a problem for you then deleting it will (or I should say might) lead you somewhere else to project that problem. A lot of people are using it to better their lives and to learn and acquire the knowledge they seek. That's how I use it except for an occasional scroll here and there. Can't resist a cute cat video or a little tiny bit of celebrity gossip to break up the monotony of learning and delving into deep topics. Maybe 10mins here and there of random stuff. So, I feel no need to delete. I'm actually bombarded with topics of interest as the algorithm caters to that and that's the only problem I have. Not just randomly scrolling.

A problem doesn't just go away by deleting it, but getting to the cause of the problem to avoid other problems similar to the frequency of said problem. Things just rotate and not get solved this way. It's like having an addiction problem and trying to eliminate the addiction to that substance while the reason for the addiction still lingers around. You'll just find something else to get addicted to. The issue is not even that, because we're just addiction freaks but levelling up your frequency and changing the core of who you are will lead to being addicted to other meaningful things that may be more beneficial and where you're engaging in things on a different level that allows for a better experience of life. E.g. getting addicted to healthy eating, knowledge that's uplifting and motivating, addicted to sharing love, addicted to helping others, stuff like that. Certain problems cannot even arise when there's a certain mindset; they can't flourish. They fall away.

Someone who feels deeply loved by whatever source, whether it's from through self or loved ones, will not be addicted to certain things and vice versa. So, increasing your capacity to love and to share that love will also lessen the addiction to destructive things and widen your capacity to turn towards more things that will allow for the expression of that love. Social media can be used for that, as I try to do here with posts like these, where I share the knowledge I've acquired from life and experts on certain topics; and I can also receive from others. If social media was a bad thing, it would be bad for everyone. It's just a matter of how it's being used.

You still here

This place is the only good social media, as it is about self-improvement and spirituality. The amount of brilliant insights I've received from this forum alone is tremendous.

Also consider where they got their information to be able to share it here. Came from somewhere. That place might have been from social media. The people with those brilliant insights were also influenced by something else. So it's a chain of causation. Saying this place is the only good social media is like saying I'll just leave out the reasons why it's so good and forget about the things that made it good.

@Princess Arabia I do agree to some degree what you said about how you use social media, but in my experience its it very easy to get into endless scrolling. Also i have tendency to start comparing myself to others, so the only soloution i found out was to delete it all and work on myself.

Nice. Just one caveat; and this is only to make you aware of it and to keep it in the background. It's the mind that wants to work on itself and it's the mind that says it needs to quit social media to work on itself. The mind is very tricky and will end up in circles if you're not careful on how to maneuver it.

A suggestion is to not say you're quitting social media because it's bad and causing this and that and i need to work on myself but to just see it as something you're just not interested in anymore and are moving on to do something else. Only a suggestion as I'm kind of familiar on how the tricky mind works and how it gets entangled into it's own traps. Kudos to you, though, for taking steps to improve your experience.

I do not like connecting my friends to my other friends. That's the only reason back then that held me off of social media. I could have made like a two or three accounts now that I think about it. Idk. And I regret it a little bit. Because I could have seen my timeline throughout the years if I had one. And something that is shared won't be lost.

Now, I just think that , it's really good if you only follow really high quality profile. Other than that, it can make you sick. I don't have social media back then only YouTube. YouTube takes a lot of effort to make so anything in it are higher effort higher quality things (back then, only? I guess) others are like

@Peo Great choice man, the challenge would be to keep it up long-term. Perhaps journal how you can make this change sustainable, and remind yourself why you're doing this every now and then.
