Leo’s overuse of spiral dynamics

Spiral Dynamics is very useful when it comes to survival. I also look at it as a tool for navigating how to get my “foot in the door”, to connect with the individual or the magic that’s actually there. But the trap is using it as a hindrance….letting it define people and limit your experience of them.

It shrinks people into groups and personalities, ignoring their actual magic. This not only leads to seeing people incorrectly but also behaving in ways that reinforce that image.

It can obviously become an attachment, a way to create a sense of safety and structure, bypassing the deeper intelligence that exists beyond the framework.

I dont know how @Leo Gura uses the model but saying things like ‘If people would stop acting it, I would stop using it,’ CAN be a sign of overlooking the fact that it’s easy to become selective in what you focus on.

By loosening my attachment to these frameworks, I found a much richer and expansive view of reality.

@Spiral Wizard Your comment reminded me of a friend of mine deep in green. I explained her the SD models and all the limitations of green and how she could make the transition to yellow and how that would look like and so on.

At the end of the discussion she was very thankful and said well maybe I wanna juice green for some more years. I still feel there's a lot of work to do here and now I'm aware of my next steps and when I am ready, I'll take them.

is there any correct way to start the spiral dynamics series? i've watched the 3 part series of 9 stages of ego development from leo and now i want to get into spiral dynamics. happy to get some insight

Seems to me nobody is totally one spiral dynamic stage and higher stages don't necessarily mean one is less neurotic and more moral. One could argue there are stage turquoises that could be serial killers or psychopaths because people who are not neurotypical typically get into personal development simply to figure out why they are different.  Society's philosophers and intellects tend to be social outcasts to varying degrees compared to what one might dub a "neurotypical." There are plenty of highly intelligent individuals with violent or neurotic tendencies in our society/planet.

The degree one is developed is the degree one is able to accept what is outside one's control without turning totally amoral or emotionless or nihilistic or getting upset at things one thinks "should" be different than how they are. Seems like spiral dynamics doesn't do a good enough job measuring EQ in my opinion, and a person shouldn't really label themselves as a tier 2 thinker if they are too full of negativity, victim mentality, or any emotions that david hawkins would calibrate under level 200 or they have a side to them that can "snap" easily with emotional outbursts and/or desire to get "revenge" among other lower emotional states.

Also it's easy to be a saint in paradise, and people tend to regress to lower stages based on when they are stressed or put in a situation where there may be genuine danger. This separates those who have spent less time mastering their responses to "what is"  to those who are better trained to "roll with the punches."  ... to this degree you can have better developed stage oranges while having stage yellows that are undeveloped or immature in many ways.  It's another system that measures some or even many aspects of a person's development but not all aspects.

I feel that more important than debates of SD is to start creating ways to nudge people from one Stage to other. For Sure there are many endeavors already in the world aimed to this cause, Actualized being one of them for example
