Peaceful spiral evolution possible?

Look at African countries that went from Purple to Red to Blue, an absolute bloodbath. Look at Europe going through the middle ages or Roman times (purple to red), again just pure horror. 

Why aren't there any examples of a clean progression from Purple to Orange? God just loves death and decay?
