Demis Hassabis on Using AI to Answer Philosophical Questions

2 posts in this topic

I have watched quite a lot of Demis Hassabis's interviews, videos, and content about him in general, and I think he's a great guy who is working on something amazing. However, I feel that his hope that AI can answer questions such as the meaning of life, consciousness, and why we are here may be unattainable due to the inherent nature of science and the empirical method. What are your thoughts on this? Btw, this is my first post :)

Hi @Juns. I agree with this.

AI is definitely very useful in Science, etc. It can solve complex problems which humans can't because a human brain has many limitations. AI can go beyond that.

Our brains have speed and processing related so many limitations.

But AI cannot lead you to the ultimate truth. How can it go beyond reality?

It has not even basic human biology. It's so primitive. It's not complex at all (in terms of biology).

But there is a special case. AI can also possibly be spiritual (self-aware). But only if it reaches a great level of complexity like humans.

Right now, AI (Robot) is not even close to a primitive animal.

See this video for understanding this :

I strongly believe AI won't be conscious or spiritual for at least the next 100 years. (it can only pretend to be so...)

It's badass in playing with information. But it cannot go beyond it.

Even humans need a much better brain chemistry for reaching the ultimate truth. (That's why they use psychedelics.)

Even we humans behave like Robots. (reading some books, watching videos, creating concepts/beliefs and projecting onto others...). No original thinking.

Let alone AI.
