People do feed their pets low quality food all the time. Cookies etc. 

Also the typical cat food and dog food is very low quility. With Ash (!!) In it etc. 

It makes a big difference in the health of the animal if you feed them higher quality protein food.

What is worse is that a lot of fast food packaging (plastics) which break down into mouth-size pieces for birds and fish to eat.

If you buy sea salt for cooking you more than likely to find small pieces of plastic in it.
