Experience

Yes, it is.

I remember when I was a small kid, just starting to visit shops. I couldn't even talk to shopkeepers to buy something. I would hesitate and feel nervous, often pre-planning conversations.

Now it's nothing for me. It's ridiculous.

I don't have experience with girls, so I am not confident. But I will be so in the future.

Yup. You just need massive experience until it stops being a thing you worry about or second-guess.

Are you insecure about how to wipe your ass? No. Cause you've done it 10,000 times.

Anything you do 10,000 times becomes confident. And anything you do once or twice is insecure.

I've heard confidence described as uncertainty / how little you care (credit to healthy gamer, but also Leo's 2 videos on Fear).

  • Experience takes care of the side of the equation of uncertainty. You get so much proof that you can do it that you become confident. The uncertainty, or perceived likelihood of failure, starts high, and with proof it gets lower and lower.
  • On the other hand, if you don't care about the outcome, or don't perceive it as a threat to your identity, you won't act insecure. This is the "how little you care" or ego aspect of the equation. Leo talked about this in his videos on Fear as well. You only care about other's opinions because you identify as a person that's perceived as... blank. If your self-esteem is grounded outside the outcome, so there's no perceived danger to your ego, then you'll be confident.

If you're afraid of asking a question, you can either:

  • Ask 1000 questions and get proof that nothing happens, or you get good at asking good questions
  • You develop a sense of self-esteem that's completely independent of looking stupid, and if you're wrong, it will actually feel good because it's an opportunity to be corrected and learn a lesson

The second aspect really can't be excluded that quickly.

Confidence doesn't necesary requiere experience, just a lack of self-doubt. Some people's confidence comes from delusion, blind spots and dunning kruger effect.

But yeah massive experience is a sure way of developing confidence, specifically with women

Quote

The word “confidence” comes from the Latin “confidentia,” which is derived from “confidere.” The Latin term breaks down into “con-” meaning “with” and “fidere” meaning “to trust.” Therefore, “confidere” essentially means “to trust completely” or “to have full trust.”

Over time, “confidentia” in Latin evolved to denote trust, reliance, and assurance. This transitioned into Old French as “confidence,” maintaining the same meaning. By the late Middle Ages, it was incorporated into Middle English, retaining its sense of trust and assurance.

Thus, the etymology of “confidence” illustrates a progression from the concept of full trust in oneself or others, evolving through Latin and French into the English term we use today.

Its etymology, to start with.

Confidence is forgetting yourself.

That's a pretty good definition.

I have a small penis but I'm one of the few guys who showers at my gym. Sometimes I forget myself and I talk to other guys in the locker room while I dry myself.

Oh I googled, too much information. Sometimes I'm just kidding around. But I get it. I'll tell Susan to tone it down.

one is confident as opposed to charismatic as opposed to content

confident is the desire to project your vibe

charismatic is not needing to project your vibe but doing so anyway

content is being happy in one's own skin and unbothered if anyone notices

a person needs confidence in a partner to the degree they lack confidence in themselves

and thus they want to project it outwards and thereby at last feel confidence

confidence is the greatest con-job going, a shaky house of cards that can topple at some tiny disturbance

the confident will lie about that too of course

Confidence isn't just Experience. There are many things involved that contribute to be confident.

By confidence if you mean feeling certainty and skilled on a given area that surely requires a lot of  experience but if by confidence you mean a general confidence demeanor in life in every situation then there are a lot of things that goes into it.

@Pro24 Confidence is a false sense of Knowing..

Clarity trumps over Confidence, if You have Clarity then You will walk thru life with Ease, with Confidence You walk thru life with challenges still because You are in a dark strange room and cannot see, but if You could see then there is no challenges, and via that You are more capable of going beyond the simple desires to be known, or success/rich/ and so forth the society puts on You as Your desires, true desire is to be boundless, absolutely free, and experientially connected to all things all at once..this doesn't happen with Confidence, it starts to happen with Clarity!

Saying you have a small penis also is. Maybe that's why you can identify inappropriateness when you see it. I admit I can go overboard and be silly at times, to break up the monotony of being always serious, and will, in the future, control the urge to do so.

I am very open when it comes to sexuality, maybe because of what I do, but it doesn't make my character any less integrous.

I like this comment. Not sure if it's the case, but it rings true of how we can misuse certain words and their meanings. Motivation is also one of them as motivation can turn into burnt out energy and is not what one needs to necessarily achieve success or to get things done. Knowing that, is why I'm open to believing your comment might also be the case.

Confidence is acting as you know when actually you don´t know lol

I guess hope or trust are the tools of confidence.
