Noise Neighbor - Sound Proofing, Sound Cancelling etc Suggestions please.

What are some successes you've had getting a good night's sleep with a noisy flatmate?

Any suggestions are welcome, if you've a particular product that's worked for you that would be appreciated.

Ive been cursed with the worst roommates + paper thin walls. In my experience, theres little that can be done. I would slam on their doors and tell them to be quiet which would help a little bit, but it was always a temporary solution. I ended up just molding my sleep pattern around theirs.

^^^ This was my only solution that kind of worked. It does a pretty good job of blocking out external noises and I was able to sleep pretty well with it playing on headphones.

Good luck asking a baby to be quiet. I was that baby one time in a duplex 😅

I turn on the fan at the highest speed to increase white noise. But this increases the electric bill. Yet it's an effective option to block noise.

Thankfully I have very decent neighbors, no noise. I also have noise canceling glass so I can't hear what they do.

Foam earplugs don't work for me. Extremely uncomfortable. Keep ears blocked.

Just a quick word on sound proofing. Unfortunately there isn't much you can do without significant building work.

To stop sound waves you need thickness and density. A concrete wall is the best option but I'm gonna guess thats not possible for you haha.

Rockwool is a good sound insulator. If you can get that installed in your walls that would help a lot.

Sound proofing 'foam' or blankets will do nothing. They're actually acoustic treatment, and help to defract sound reflections rather than prevent it coming through.

I have noisey neighbours and I wear Bose noise cancelling headphones basically all day, and then soft ear plugs at night (cut in half) - both of these work very well for me.

But ideally I want to move somewhere where I don't have to wear either.

Why do you cut it in half?

So I can sleep on my side without them sticking out. And they also don't fall out as easily.

Cutting them is essential. They are too long by default.

I would not suggest it but i sleep almost every night with my Airpods Pro, leave them at off mode, no music. If you sleep with a pillow over your head you're going to hear nothing

Thank you all. I've done some of these, spoken to them, molded my own sleeping patterns slightly, and bought foam earplugs. I've also got some of these:

https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B0CHHS8TCQ

Which I have to say blocks out most noise, if it gets noisier you turn up the volume, and it can link via Bluetooth to your phone. Some of the noise-canceling stuff I like here too, and I am buying tapestries to put around the walls. Thanks all.

I am fatigued and really felt it today at work but trying to adapt. Both houses I frequent (one for my business and one for sleep) and store stuff are currently in chaos of different sorts. It might be me telling myself to stop being cheap and rent a place I can do both in.

Might give it a shot.

I need this desperately too, I can’t wear earplugs because I can hear my pulse and heart beat, it gives me autistic triggers.

I’ve heard about seals that go in between doors and help with noise, as well as very thick insulation blocks (not foam)

airpods pro do not stick in your ears, you wont hear your heartbeat, you just activate the noise cancelling feature and leave no music. Is crazy how that thing blocks external noise (as long as are not voices or similar high pitch sounds, but for shit like washing machine and like that works amazing)
