Has anyone done any reasearch about the safety of browser extensions? I've heard some stuff about how there could be security risks but I'm not sure.

@LordFall  Some real world examples from the article I shared:

 

-North Korean hackers have used malicious browser extensions to spy on inboxes and exfiltrate sensitive emails.

-The DataSpii scandal exposed the private data of over 4 million users—collected and sold by innocent-looking productivity tools.

-Mega.nz, a privacy-respecting file storage service, had its Chrome extension hacked. Malicious code was pushed to users, silently stealing passwords and crypto wallet keys. It took them four hours to catch it—more than enough time for real damage.

-Cyberhaven, a cybersecurity company, was breached in late 2024. Their extension was hijacked and used to scrape cookies, session tokens, and authentication credentials—compromising over 400,000 users.

I wonder how we can effectively vet extensions to at least maximize security, if some risk is unavoidable.

Regarding the post on YouTube corruption. This is something I had been contemplating and noticing a lot recently as well. It’s sad, because I felt like for a while YouTube was a great platform that was quite unbiased and showed you interesting, thought provoking material. They were not like Instagram TikTok and twitter and held a certain integrity in not showing you dopamine fueled shorts and catchy thumbnails. And now you don’t even get shown videos of creators you’re subscribed to. I mean I found this channel via YouTube and it changed my life deeply.

 

One good thing about YouTube is they don’t seem too politically biased. It seems like they just serve up what will make them the most profit, but they aren’t pushing some agenda like Zuckerberg or Musk (pussies)  
 

I was doing some searching for my own channel and it was so hard to do research. Seems like tons of videos are just gone or lost in the sea of slop that YouTube recommends first. 
 

Feels like YouTube is just like an entertainment platform now, and even educational channels are whoring themselves out to user retention and keeping people addicted. 
 

Sad.

I am not on Tiktok but I noticed that my FB and Insta are also flooded with slop, despite be being ultra strict with my content curation. This has led me to reduce usage a lot. I've basically soft quit Insta and only skim Facebook to participate in personal development communities and I take long breaks from it. I have been reading more books and e books as a result, so it's a win.

I'm currently binge watching all Leo's previous actualized.org videos because I have a feeling that in the political climate we are in there is a real possibility of his content to be deleted by those right wing fools who rule the government. I suggest you take thorough notes on every video, and to watch his videos like it would be for the last time. Don't take anything for granted.

Same! I deleted insta and fb I never go on there my only “thing” is YouTube and this forum. And honestly, the value of books, doing nothing, and music has never been more appealing. It’s non stop garbage there, maybe 1 nugget of gold for every 100 videos of slop

It’s also a good idea because Leo’s content, compared to what’s being created today, is even more high quality and valuable. 
 

Even the political “news” is just dopamine traps, over dramatizing everything.

Unlikely. Their are far bigger targets such as political channels to go after first. If it does ever go it’s either because some forum user goes postal or something and the media pressures YouTube to deplatform Leo or Leo has some new awakening that inspires him to delete everything for some reason.
