@Leo Gura I feel as thought the Actualized channel and forum has gotten away from the study of Spiral Dynamics over the past few years-so I was happy to see this post. Understanding these stages are really the only viable way to not get sucked into these culture wars-God knows where I would be if I didn’t know anything about Spiral Dynamics.

I would argue that the word ‘woke/woke-ness’ itself is a derogatory label used by stage Blue and stage orange MAGA conservatives use as propaganda against Green. It lumps both healthy and unhealthy aspects into the bucket of woke, so that other conservatives (who are already bad at making nuanced distinctions) will not even begin to see the truths of Green and aspire for higher development. And if I’m honest, it has worked.

Acknowledging wokeness as a thing already signals how effective the toxic Blue/Orange memes have been against Green. Oligarchs and tech giants see how such a strategy aligns with their pockets and their power. 

I used to scoff at Leo when he said it would take 50-100 years for America to settle into Green, especially considering the nations development compared to other nations. But with the recent Trump victory-his assessment couldn’t have been more accurate.

DEI is a step in the right direction but it doesn’t do enough. For it to cause such reactions, it is pretty clear the US is very far from healing as a nation, which cannot happen without reparations.

Imo conservatives just see it generally as affirmative action which they are traditionally against. But there’s probs some academic out there with a more insightful view

DEI at its highest level challenges oppressive hierarchies and white patriarchal power in various institutions and bureaucracies. It champions stage Green multi culturalism and pluralism.

Of course it has its excesses but that’s not what conservatives (Blue, Orange) are really talking about. They strawman DEI and criticize from below. Only legitimate criticisms of DEI are from a stage Green and Yellow perspective.

Conservatives generally prioritize equality of means over outcome. Affirmative action is an attempt at equalizing outcomes so conservatives are naturally going to dislike it based on that factor alone.

The main critique is of the hiring and promotion of people who may not be qualified for the job. You can find plenty of critique of accidents or poor performance blamed on DEI personal who supposedly didn't know what they where doing. The overweight Secret Service lady caught a lot of flak for being a "DEI hire" after the Trump shooting for instance. Most of it is just vibes however though I agree with the principle that hiring someone should prioritize competency first.

I can see a rebrand happening in the future.

From what I have understood, DEI is a method to lessen the bias toward people who are treated unfairly.

I think people's negative reactions to DEI are more about other ethnicities being treated equally than just competency. As if companies didn't hire non-competent people before DEI.
