Hurricane Helene

11 posts in this topic

I live in western North Carolina and we have been totally devastated by hurricane Helene.

It is the first hurricane to have hit the mountains. Flash flooding was rampant. Homes were destroyed, roads torn apart, and our whole area was completely devastated.

There are lines that are several hours long of people waiting to get gas, drinking water, and food.

This is historic.

Stay strong. Hopefully help gets to those communities soon.

I'm sorry to hear that.

Recently, we had floods in the state where I live here in Brazil (Rio Grande do Sul).

It was historic, shocking and completely insane.

25 days of pure raw raining.

Expect a 'once in 1000 years' flood every 10 years. That's climate change.

I would think that he would do a much better job of handling something like this than the way Bush handled Hurricane Katrina back in 2005.

Every time I think back to what happened back then with Hurricane Katrina, I always snicker over how terrible of a job Bush did back then with mitigating that disaster. I remember when Bush said to the head of FEMA at the time, Michael D. Brown, whom Bush appointed, "Brownie, you're doing a heck of a job." That was another prime example of unbelievable tone-deaf leadership.

It also was one of the first time I really began to realize how racist the right-wing was as I remember Tucker Carlson back then was like "Well, what about all of the looting that many African Americans are doing now?"

Our community is coming together strangely enough.

There's no democrats, no republicans. Only Americans.

it took about a week until I got my power back. We're on a well (thankfully) but many other people in Asheville don't have water and won't have water for weeks.

Daniel Schmachtenberger lives here and I'm wondering how he's faring through this.

What about what Musk said that they are rejecting his help there and sending helicopters with supplies away?
