How to find great books?

16 posts in this topic

I recently listened to Destiny Disrupted from Leo's blog and it's incredible. Highly recommend.

@Leo Gura,or anyone else, how do you find great books amongst the thousands of books written on each topic?

@enchanted I bought a booklist some time ago. It payed for itself.

The fact that it only costs 35$ is ridiculous, what a bargain

God-Realize, this is First Business. Know that unless I live properly, this is not possible.

There is this body, I should know the requirements of my body. This is first duty. We have obligations towards others, loved ones, family, society, etc. Without material wealth we cannot do these things, for that a professional duty.

There is Mind; mind is tricky. Its higher nature should be nurtured, then Mind becomes Virtuous and Conscious. When all Duties are continuously fulfilled, then life becomes steady. In this steady life God is available; via 5-MeO-DMT, ... Living in Self-Love, Realizing I am Infinity & I am God

There are so many videos on YouTube that start with — "best reading books." You could search for those videos.

My name is Sara.

Ah yes, my favourite pastime for the last 10 years.

I feel like I've got the best list of books from authors mentioning it in their existing books. So if you love an author, skim the book for mentions of books, see if there is a recommended reading page at the end, otherwise search the name on the internet followed by 'book recommendations', 'book list', or 'recommended reading'.

Other ways I've found incredible books:

  • Searching a favorite book on Goodreads, and scrolling down to the 'people also read...' bit
  • Same as the above but on Amazon
  • Internet search 'best books about X reddit'
  • Check YouTube comments on videos that intrigue you

You can download free samples for Kindle on Amazon to skim read and see if it's something you like. Or just internet search 'book-title pdf free' or 'book-title epub free'

If you want to study a subject you can ask AI to give you the best or the most recommended books on the topic.

And you can explore the subject with AI before reading it.

Yes

I don't like reading books that much. So, I'm biased here.

I love the real-timeness of the AI.

I love to think in a non-linear way.

I have noticed that there is more detailed, in depth information in books compared to AI, though it depends on the topic.

That could be the case, depending on how you ask the AI questions.

If it works for you, then that’s cool, why not?

Thanks. Idk, I feel like people don't respect you when you don't think like them.

I often don’t even really know what subjects interest me. It depends more on the book and writing style for example books on psychology can be interesting but also trash. Same with books on spirituality a lot is just money making.

Try the Glass Bead Game by Hesse. It is a literary masterpiece.

I have it but it’s hard to get into it.

Not really enjoying it and not forcing myself to.

I enjoyed Steppenwolf and Demian too by him though.

I shall share my technique:

There is a library in my city where it is allowed to binge read every single book in the store. And it is not just a library, it probably ranks in the Top 5 of latam. So it is pretty big, with tons of books.

The fact that you can read freely means it is ok to grab a bunch of top seller books (for example, Grenee's books, finantial book's, you name it) and then go to the reading sector and check them out.

This is the only way you can know a book is good or not, by reading it (duh). But of course this way is better than risking buying books you haven't checked out.

@enchanted I find its recommendations as there are so many. Leo mentioned this guy called David Deida and so I bought his book the way of the superior man. Very good. This forum is a good source
