Craniosacral Therapy Course - I'm scared of starting it!

7 posts in this topic

I'm starting this course in November, but I am afraid. The book I need to read goes into detail about the body parts, and I'm no expert, I have no particular knowledge about that. But when I went to sign up for the course, the lady working there said that it's not a problem. I hope it's true, otherwise I wasted a lot of money.

Has anyone done this course? If you have any advice, pls let me know.

Congrats! Craniosacral is a beautiful art and can bring deep healing. I will also start a course in Italy in a few weeks. Which organisation have you signed up with?

This one is grounded in mindfulness but of course will require studying anatomy and physiology. I have a background in health sciences and love studying the body, so I can't say I share the same concern. But I can say that it's not rocket science and it can be learned like anything else: with focus, curiosity and determination. Also, assuming you speak French, the anatomy vocabulary is more forgiving.

It'll definitely help to get familiar with the content of the book as much as possible before the course. If that's too complicated, find a simpler book about anatomy and physiology and start there. Is there any part of it that is confusing or worrying you in particular? I might be able to help ^_^

I will do the course in Trieste, with the Associazione Cranio-Sacrale Upledger.

I am reading the book that the association gave me; I have to read the first six chapters. They're about: intro to the concept of the craniosacral system, basic terminology, movements of the craniosacral system (ability to touch), techniques of modification of the craniosacral rhythm, etc.

To be honest I haven't read much, I got the book last week, and I've been pretty busy so I couldn't read much. I read the long prefaces and the first chapter.

I feel scared because I don't want to arrive at the course and see that they talk really specific terminologies of body parts and I don't understand anything. But as I am reading the book I research online about everything that I don't know.

Maybe the right way to approach this is to be curious and eager to learn, instead of being scared and thinking "Omg I don't know anything"

@manuel bon

I took a course.

Honestly I felt like it was a bit of a waste. People talk about being able to feel the Craniosacral rhythm and moving structures, but I wasn't able to notice anything. It's basically just holding people.

I would like to believe there's something to it. Maybe there are some exceptional practitioners with skills I just don't have. But it's hard to believe given my experience and its complete lack of scientific validation.

At the very least, I think many people are definitely bullshitting themselves about its efficacy.

Curious to hear how your experience goes, let us know.

@aurum I see, thank you for your comment.

I think that maybe the problem is learning to find the right sensitivity in the touch.

I went to my father's craniosacral therapist, and I did a couple of sessions, and Evey time I felt something changing inside of me, apart from the fact that at the end of the session I had another kind/level of awareness, I don't know how to explain it. Could be placebo, but it affects the same way also my father who has a brain injury and doesn't know at all what's going on, so I'm his case can't be placebo.
