@Ero I understand your point.

@UnbornTao Wouldn't that just be an instance of introjected motivation, like in the Self-determination theory @Carl-Richard shared?

It depends on how you hold the distinctions. Simply, if you do it, intent has occurred. No emotional component is necessary.

Motivation = stress.

Everything that decrease stress response (ejaculation, downer drugs, comfort...) decrease motivation.

What decrease stress response is what put you in an acceptable position, on a monist pov push "you" to accept a new version of yourself.

Awaken the Giant Within by T. Robbins has a lot on motivation and how to make yourself take right action. The pain-pleasure principle I leverage in particular a lot. Basically it means to convince yourself that something that is initially painful is actually more pleasurable than painful and vice-versa (in terms of vices, laziness, etc.)

Sure. Very few people use academic defintions of words.

Also stress from lack of feeling competent or in control of your own actions?

Yes, stress is precisely the motivation of "taking" control ; It's the same thing.

Otherwise, you would simply give up.

What a joke

This is my definition of discipline:

God-Realize, this is First Business. Know that unless I live properly, this is not possible.

There is this body, I should know the requirements of my body. This is first duty. We have obligations towards others, loved ones, family, society, etc. Without material wealth we cannot do these things, for that a professional duty.

There is Mind; mind is tricky. Its higher nature should be nurtured, then Mind becomes Virtuous and Conscious. When all Duties are continuously fulfilled, then life becomes steady. In this steady life God is available; via 5-MeO-DMT, ... Living in Self-Love, Realizing I am Infinity & I am God

Motivation = contraction

stress = contraction

fapping = expansion

rest = expansion

The bigger picture is contraction and expansion, this realization one recognises by Vipassana and insight meditation practices.

Tyson was disciplined because he was very motivated to, at a neurotic level, fight and giving the impression to be a tough guy.

Why aren't you disciplined to drink celery juice every day ?

Because for NOW you don't SEE the POINT !

Discipline = Unconscious motivations = Ego = Survival.

@Schizophonia No, discipline is literally doing something when you have no motivation to do it, when you actually is the last thing you would like to do in the world. That's the point. Discipline gets you when you have no motivation, it's your backbone. When you are supermotivated you have no need for discipline. It's in the tough days, in the rainy and dark weather that discipline gets you to do it.

That's my position. What is your position? What do you mean by unconscious motivation? I would appreciate an elaboration

Discipline is producing an outcome that wouldn't naturally come about as a result of your already established drives.

When you're "motivated" :  "I will do some jogging, this way i will be able to lose weight !".

When you're "disciplined" : "I will do some jogging, this way it means i'm not a shit who will never find someone"

The mechanism is the same, only the affect is different.

The discipline/motivation dichotomy gives the impression that by discipline you do something "without drive", which is dumb : There is still something, an energy which push you to pursue the effort.

It’s easy to be disciplined when it becomes part of your identity

Which can be dangerous.

If Adolf Hitler was French there would have been two death lol, because people would have been too lazy to make gas chambers and would have simply said “what is this crazy lol”.

Too much "discipline" also means wasting time turning away from a more absolute, more holistic truth. Also, when you are in good health and energetic, you become naturally more hardworking, more strict on hygiene and storage, etc.

What do you mean “two death” is it a typo? You mean the holocaust wouldn’t have happened?

I agree, my claim is that the source of that energy is different.

Motivation comes from an emotional state

Discipline comes from integrity

Knowing that even if you don't feel like it; doing that is the higher good for your life

Good luck realizing Absolute truths without unwavering discipline, you get glimpses here and there but nothing serious, just playing around when motivation kicks in.
